  1. Hello. I'm in a limbo here. I have been accepted by one school(A) with generous funding but I am still waiting to hear from another program(B) that says there is a good chance of funding for me but, unfortunately, which would not arrive until the April 15th. I would rather go to this other school(B) but I am worried that when I reject the other offer(A) school B may not offer funding. I have requested an extension on the deadline but there is no reply. I think it is too much for school B to ask me to give them a Yes or No by the same deadline without the funding information. My professor says that she never had to deal with this kind of problem since there was no set national deadline. So, here is my question. Even though I know it is quite unethical, is it okay to cancel an acceptance after the deadline? I'm thinking about saying yes to both A and B so that if B offers me funding, I can cancel on A. Is there any "legal" issue involved? Can I say yes to two programs or am I signing with my blood here? If you know anything, please help. The clock is ticking!
  2. Thanks! I just browsed the suggested link and it really helped me.
  3. Greetings! I am an international student applying for 2016 Fall. I currently have some funding offers and some waitlists that I am still waiting on. Though I had a hard time due to the language barrier I somehow managed to apply to schools and and miraculously some of them want me! Now, I am thinking about moving across the globe and I am totally lost. I have focused on getting accepted so much that I never thought about what comes next. Possible five years to spend in different continent, different language, different lifestyle... Should I look for an apartment? Is it a good idea to live by myself? Where do I look for a roommate? Does schools normally have a separate option for grad students on housing? I once heard that some schools provide grad students with a one-bedroom apartment unlike undergraduates. How much money should I take with me? What are the things I should avoid? I know these questions are a bit too general but I don't know where to start. I'm thrilled and terrified. I'm all ears to any kind of advice. Housing, adopting to new environment, buying a car, or even buying a colored pen. Thanks in advance, you guys.
  4. I've been waitlisted too (19th/19th century) ! Hope we get to hear some good news.
  5. I have so far got one acceptance, one MA recommendation, and four waitlists. And I haven't heard back from two schools. (These are going to be rejections I assume. But I emailed them anyways asking updates on my application) I guess not being able to give me the details/rankings on my application is not a good sign. BTW, has anybody heard any news on funding from MSU? I emailed the DGS three weeks ago and still no reply. I hope everyone on this forum gets some good news by the dreadful April 15th!
  6. I haven't heard from them either. I want to play the game of deciding, accepting, declining, and negotiating so bad like every other person on this forum. If you are in the same boat as I am, hang in there my friends.
  7. Waiting for the right email is also draining the life out of me. It's nice to know it's still early though! I got my 8 rejections in a row (1 waitlisted, 1 accepted) and I'm feeling like I did something wrong.
  8. Does anyone have any news on U of Minnesota? Has anybody got off the waitlist? I've seen a couple of ppl posting their acceptance but never saw one off the waitlist...
  9. I got my admission email surprisingly only after 12hours. But I've heard stories of schools taking much longer... Hope you get in! BTW, Has anyone heard back from LSU, FSU, or Purdue? Just want to get a good night sleep!
  10. I agree. I got my waitlist email at the end of January and still haven't heard back. I think most of the admitees are also in the same situation. Still waiting to get off the waitlist or waiting to hear the "confirmed" rejections. I know you feel anxious but give it 2-3 weeks. (But it's hard! I get up everyday wishing my mailbox has THE letter.)
  11. Congratulations! I am still waiting to hear from Buffalo. Guess I am rejected though. So bummed after receiving 6 rejections in a row. Did they offer you good funding?
  12. Thank you for your kind comment. I will check the Result Survey. It is relieving to know that it's still early in the season!
  13. If you can't give me some good news, then please give me some closure!
  14. I found out I was rejected after checking the website. I didn't receive an email or anything. Random checks just devastaed me... You guys should all check your status. Hope you all got in!
  15. I have heard from only two schools so far and they are taking forever to give me funding info without which I cannot afford to go. What does it mean that I haven't heard from other schools? At this point, it must be a definite NO, right? And does it normally take longer to send rejection (or admission, hopefully) letters/emails to international students? I think I am losing my mind.... (I am an English lit applicant, btw)
