  1. got my snail mail today in Calgary (after no emails from U of C ?) . Standard SSHRC fellowship with a score of 13/20 from committee 2 I believe.
  2. Declined offers to Indiana HPS, BU, and Western. I'm going to Calgary and I'm very excited. It was an incredibly hard decision particularly since I'm turning down schools that are higher ranked than the one I'll attend.
  3. I will PM you after I receive responses
  4. Probably not. I'm just on my way back from Calgary and they basically seem to be my people, so I'll email some questions to BU students and decide after that.
  5. In at Boston U. First I've heard from them lol. Maybe I was on a hidden waitlist?
  6. In at Indiana HPS after my inteview this morning. Throws a huge (but happy) wrench in my decision plan.
  7. Has anyone heard of WL or rejects from UCDavis yet? I know they sent out acceptances like a month ago, but they haven't responded back to email inquiries about other statuses. I just want confirmations of my rejections already.
  8. Interview from Indiana HPS off the waitlist. Anyone know what these things consist of?
  9. Philosophers are just awkward in general. I'm obviously including myself in that generalisation, and realise that I too am quite awkward. I've had some pretty awkward interactions, and frankly, I get tired of only talking about what kind of philosophy I'm interested in. I won't think too far into it though, I know I take a while to warm up to people, and I'm inflicted with resting bitch face so people take a while to warm up to me. I think we do have to disentangle uncomfortable from straight awkwardness, though. If the department feels uncomfortable and it's not something you think time will solve, then trust your gut. PS. @Naruto, if it's any consolation, I thought you were better at casual conversation than I was when we met at Western
  10. Ahhhh! Congrats dude! So happy the decision making process is over for you, and NOLA is incredible!
  11. Can a mod pin this post to the top of the sub? This is obviously more relevant and stands the test of time, but the current year specific pinned post doesn't really help anymore.
  12. I'm now going to assume that all of my rejections were just because I was actually overqualified. You hear that, mom, I'm overqualified for Stanford.
  13. Removed myself from UW Seattle and Minnesota waitlists.
  14. Damn... Thanks for the info.
  15. Does anyone know if Western Ontario has sent out waitlists yet?
  16. Yep. Can't wait for the trickle down admissions to start.
  17. I imagine once NYU releases decisions, it'll get the waitlist chain rolling for the rest of the schools. Hopefully they release soon.
  18. Waitlisted at Alberta. Also got an update from Indiana HPS to say that they're still waiting to see if they can fund me.
  19. In case you're looking for verification of (some) waitlist emails being sent out, I do know someone else who received a waitlist email yesterday, but they weren't the person who posted.
  20. Waitlisted at UWashington Seattle. Meh.
  21. Also rejected from McGill, but it wasn't a good fit, so it was expected.
  22. U of T started releasing non-fellowship offers yesterday. It's possible they still have more to release but maybe not? I've only heard it as a guideline to students applying that they shouldn't have all 3 degrees from the same institution, so it might not be a guideline on the adcom side of things. It may also be that since it's the highest ranked Canadian school, they do what they want. EDIT: I didn't realize I was in the MA thread. They release MA decisions after PhD decisions, so maybe this week the MA applicants will hear back?
  23. I relate to this. I started my undergrad in '09 and will be starting my phd in the fall, so it took me a little while to figure this whole thing out. I also wasn't prepared for a PhD straight out of my BA, but for me, it was because I wasn't initially a philosophy major and had written like 1 essay before switching into philosophy. I also applied to a comfortable MA in the same institution as my BA. I don't regret getting to work with the supervisor with whom I worked, I got to explore a topic I had been interested in since grade 11, and I actually learned how to research. I'm still in shock that I got into Western since it's incredibly well ranked in my specific area (phil of physics), and well ranked overall, but I'd rather it have taken the 8 years that it did than have gone straight into a lower ranked phd and likely failed because I wasn't prepared. It certainly also helped that MAs are generally funded here in Canada. Ain't no way in hell that I'd be able to afford dragging this process out if I had to pay for my MA.
  24. Not sure why I can't edit my eariler post in this thread, but obviously, I spoke too soon. I'll actually have a decision to make, so the anxiety won't be over anytime soon. Why can I edit this one but not the last one? Does it have something to do with the upvotes?
