  1. @fuzzylogician Thanks for the reply.
  2. Hi all. I've received a fully funded PhD offer from Northeastern and my visa interview is scheduled for next month. However, I may have made a potential mistake in my DS-160. For "Person/Entity Paying for your Trip", I selected 'Self' thinking that it was asking for who is paying for the plane ticket but then later I found out that it actually asks for who is paying for my stay in the US, which is of course the university. Could this lead to a problem/rejection? I've already submitted the form, so I can't change anything now.
  3. Hi all, I will be attending Northeastern University beginning this fall for Ph.D, I've come across something in the immunization report that could be very problematic however, so I'm hoping for some help. In the documentation, it gives the following instructions for the Hepatitis B vaccination: "Series of 3 doses: the second dose at least 1 month after the first, the third at least 2 months after the second and 4 months after the first." Since it's almost June, even if I get the first dose right now, according to the instructions, I will not be able to get my 3rd dose until October. My term starts in September and the documentation has to be submitted 1 month prior to that. Can anyone who knows something about this or has prior experience please explain whether this will be a problem and if so how to get around it? Thanks. Link to the document I have to fill up and submit: http://www.northeastern.edu/uhcs/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/2016-17-Health-Report-Meningitis-Waiver.pdf
  4. I've been admitted to Northeastern's PhD in CS program with a fellowship offer that I need to accept by the 15th by paying a $100 deposit by that date. The problem is I'm still waiting to hear from USC and NYU Tandon. NEU has also asked me to send an email confirmation by the 15th. I'm really unsure as to what to do. I don't want to wait past the deadline and lose the amazing offer that NEU has made but I also don't want to commit to NEU and then find out I got into one of the other two (I know it's unlikely to receive funding this late but you never know). If I pay the deposit and confirm by email (I can send the corresponding signed official offer acceptance documents later), can I then change my decision? If anyone has been through similar experiences, please help! Thanks.
  5. My offer letter only mentions payment by check drawn on a US bank. I contacted them but haven't gotten a reply yet. Hopefully this won't be too much of a problem.
  6. Hi all, I'm from India and I recently got a PhD admit from Northeastern University. Before enrolling, I'm required to pay a $100 USD tuition deposit. However, they've instructed that "All checks must be issued in US$ and be drawn on a U.S. Bank." Being from India, I of course don't have an account with a US bank. So how am I supposed to pay this deposit? Any one else face this problem? If so, how did you resolve it? Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi @TakeruK. Thanks a lot for such a detailed reply! That's good to know they don't check the passport signature thoroughly. a. The problem with my old signature and the reason I changed it was that it was too small. People would think I was using my short signature or initializing my name when in fact that was my full signature! Hence, I changed it. I would imagine using it again would bring up the same problems. b. That would be ideal and is what I am planning to do and have asked around. Unfortunately, this is an Indian government office we're dealing with. A far cry from being efficient and helpful. The process would probably take months but I'm hoping that somehow it can get done quicker. c. Nope, just the passport. Also, thanks for the additional information about the visa dates.
  8. Hi all, I'm from India and have a couple of questions regarding my passport. First, is it a problem if my passport signature and current signature (which I would use for visa, immigration, etc.) are very different? When I initially got my passport about 7 years ago, my signature was very different from my present signature. So, for any matters regarding getting my visa done, immigration, opening a bank account in the US, etc., the signature I would use would not match with the signature in my passport. Is this going to be a problem and do people check the passport signature? Should I update the signature in my passport? Second, my passport will expire in 2020. Since I will be a PhD candidate, my duration of stay will be a minimum of 5 years, and perhaps 6. Hence, I'll be staying in the US till about 2021, i.e. 1 year beyond my passport expiration date. Will this be a problem at the time of getting my visa this year? Thanks in advance.
