  1. Have you checked ASHA? Look at the acceptance rates, narrow them down and then talk to the directors of the programs to se if you have a chance. Honestly with your stats, you cant be too picky-you may have to apply out of state. Hampton University just accepted me, and I had similar stats. Make sure to get good LOR's, highlight relevant experience and write a bomb ass statement

  2. I just got accepted to Hampton University, and my gpa was lower than yours. I am sure you'll get in. These days, being billingual and able to work well with others of different cultures well is an advantage( youll be surprised so many people are horrible at this) . So def play that up ( your Spanish)- thats really important for billingual families, as well as the fact that you are going abroad. Def use those 2 to your advantage. I made sure to highlight I was a beginner in Arabic and studied in Turkey. So if I can do it why cant you? Make sure you get some great references too.

Just wanted to let all of u know.  My son who had a low gpa barely 3.0 last sixty

he scored 148 149 and 4 writing on gre got into grad school a couple of days ago. We believe he got in due to the fact he visited the campus and spoke with the department head before he applied.  He also gave them a resume.   He was denied at first and then a couple of days ago they accepted him.  The depart head said she was pulling for him.

It it is possible don’t give up.

please do tell what schools these were! my stats are similar as well.

I agree with Felice.  I have pretty similar stats to you.  Cumulative GPA of 3.1 and my last 60 credit GPA was 3.7.  I knew my GPA was pretty bad so I didn't even bother applying my senior year and gained experience as an SLPA and worked at ASD summer camps.  I researched heavily which schools looked at the last 60 credits and applied to schools that catered to my bilingual/ASD background.  I applied for the first time this year to 8 schools and got 4 acceptances and 2 waitlists.  Don't give up hope!

where did you get accepted to?

  5. Anybody go to Hampton? I want to apply  there, but I am starting to second guess myself. First of all my gpa sucks, and my GRE isnt great either ( with the exception of my AW score). I am praying I can get in. I am pretty much done with the process, but wanted to know other stats who currently go there just to have a vision of my chance of getting in. And Ive already researched their usual stats, but it would be nice to see if anyone here has some similar stats to mine.

Hi there! Another average student here. I decided to apply this year just so that I wouldn’t regret not trying (I graduate in May) and I actually got into a program!! I still can’t believe it and don’t even believe I deserve it. But anyways, my overall GPA is a 3.56 and my CSD GPA is only a 3.3. My GRE scores were also not super impressive (145V 151Q and 4.0W).

I was accepted to Pacific University in Oregon because of my interview. They believe that your numbers don’t say anything about your potential for being an SLP or about you as a person.

My experience isn’t super crazy either. I have volunteer experience in a rehab facility for a summer (5 years ago) where I translated for the SLPs because they did not speak Spanish, I spent a lot of time involved in the deaf community and pretty fluent in ASL, and I now currently work as a Respite Worker with children with developmental disabilities, mostly autism and Down syndrome and through my job I get to observe their therapies and implement the strategies during play.

HOWEVER, what Pacific also saw in me was that I come from low income communities, first to go to college, and from a single parent household where I am the oldest and have had to carry that extra load of responsibilities from a very young age and that it has also been a challenge to my studies.

Most schools will not see all of that, they will see my numbers and 300words about why they should pick me. Idk what your story is, but if apply strategically you will find those schools that look at you, your experience, and your passion, you will just have to be willing to pay a little more or live very far lol. But you can do it!! If I did it you can too ?

PS: I used a book called “Graduate Admissions Essays” to help me write my personal statement, I recommend ✔️✔️

congrats on being accepted! i love to hear stories such as this!

I received my waitlist notification from Radford on March second. When did you apply?

I applied January 31st. Im thinkng I may be rejected, I dont have great stats, but it doesent hurt to try. Worst they can do is say no. But its just not knowing! My status is "still under review". When did you apply?
