  1. Programs: Comparative Literature Undergrad Institution: Duke Undergrad GPA: 3.88 Undergrad Major: Visual Arts GRE: Haven't taken yet Work Experience: Currently a senior, planning to work for 1 ~ 2 years first Languages: English, Korean, Japanese (limited) Questions/Concerns: My main concern is the fact that I'm a Visual Arts major applying to comparative literature programs. My top choices are interdisciplinary ones (Brown's MCM, Stanford's MTL, NYU's MCC, etc.), but I am also hoping to apply to literature based programs. I'm working with a professor next semester to work on a literature research paper, but besides him, the only other professors that could write me letters of recommendations are for visual arts and visual studies. With my academic background, would it make more sense to start with a MA than a PhD? I would prefer not to, considering the time/money investment, but also don't want to apply to a PhD if I won't be competitive enough just yet. Thanks!
  2. Thank you both so much! I suppose growing up as a child in the country probably counts as extensive experience haha. I think I'll still apply in the future though; it's always worth a shot!
  3. Hi everyone! I'm not actually applying for this cycle, but I've been reading into the application process and had a question about previous travel experience. I've heard from multiple unofficial sources that Fulbright prefers to award students who have had little travel experience. For me, I was born in South Korea, and moved to the US when I was 6. I've been very fortunate enough to receive financial aid through my school that covered two summer abroad sessions in Greece and Germany. I'll be returning to Korea next summer through a scholarship to do a documentary project. I'll most likely be applying for the creative project piece if I end up going through with the Fulbright. I originally had Korea in mind, but will most likely apply for China instead (which I'm still greatly interested in), as I feel like they won't approve of me going back to a country I was born in--and will have done a previous project in. But at this point, I'm starting to get a little nervous that all of my international experience will put me at a disadvantage regardless of where I apply. Any thoughts and experiences you guys have to share? Thanks so much!
  4. Thanks! I was really interested in the visual anthropology program at USC, but they are unfortunately more practice oriented rather than theory oriented.
  5. Hey y'all, I'm a Visual Studies major potentially thinking of switching tracks to Anthropology. I'm interested in cultural and visual anthropology, ethnography, and folklore, focusing on immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities in the US (that's a lot of broad stuff, sorry!). Anyways, as I'm gearing up for graduate school, I was wondering if anyone had info on graduate anthropology programs that provide funding for master's students. Thanks so much!
  6. Anyone know of any funded MA programs for Communications? Including Media Studies and Visual Studies programs as well.
