US news is the authoritative ranking of graduate programs in political science. Overall rankings of universities are meaningless when deciding on grad programs.
You decide between acceptances by their ranking, who you want to work with the most, funding and scholarly support, and placement.

Like I said a couple of pages ago, I'm expecting Princeton, Berkeley, Chicago, and now I just realized probably Duke as well by the end of the next week/early the week after. I'm sure there are others as well, but none that I applied to so I haven't been following them for past result timeframes.

So, late next week I am guessing we hear from Chicago, Berkeley, and Princeton. It's nice to know that some of the bigger programs are going to start dropping.

Early morning stress here. Still hoping to hear from Northwestern (or anywhere) before the weekend

Hi, folks. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Not sure how helpful this is, but I know that the Berkeley admissions committee is meeting in the middle of next week. Whether they will send out some acceptance notifications before then or not, I'm not sure – but I think we can interpret the mid-week meeting as an indication that at least some decisions won't be made until that point. Best of luck to everyone! (And damn those Stanford trolls from last week – they really got my nerves up!)

I don't see any program deviating from their usual practices. And by the end of next week is soon.

Its really great to see a lot of people posting GREs/GPAs in the results since this is extremely useful information to future applicants.

Can I again seriously ask people though: post subfields.
If someone posts a desirable school acceptance with low Quant GRE scores but without a subfield, applicants wont be able to know whether to infer "this school not care about GRE scores" or "this school does not care about Quant GRE scores for Theory students."  Useful to theory and non-theory students alike (and same for verbal GRE and methods, political economy, potentially).

Likewise if a school sends out acceptances in batches (but perhaps rejections at the same time) it would be at least a bit useful to know if those batches were grouped by subfield or if it was something less clear than that.

I have no horse in this race, but I remember it being said that the OSU grad school system updates slowly. I would wait a bit until  freaking out.

No offense, but those were troll posts. There is nothing wrong with pointing out trolls for being trolls...

It's okay cause I'm not so offended.
It was my "bottom" choice and I also acknowledge that they would not be the "real places" for most applicants.
I just want to say that judging an argument (and a department) with mere GRE writing score is definitely not a good choice, especially if you are going to be a graduate student.

    This. This 1000000x over.
Having finished a terminal MA, I thought I had a good sense of what a PhD at a top 10 would be like. Wrong. I work 72-80 hours a week and I'm still told by faculty that I'm not working hard enough. Sleeping 8 hours a night? How can I, shouldn't I be working? Everyone has told us that the department has us by the throat until after generals, and even then. If you work with specific faculty, they're no less understanding afterward when it comes to family commitments or personal lives. In a way I got a taste of it when I was helping my Mother grieve the loss of her father during my MA. Two weeks after the funeral, I commented that I had been up until 2AM on the phone with her. My advisor asked me why I was still dealing with the issue. It sounds heartless, but the attitude is that your prioritize your work over yourself if you really want to land that job. Personally, I'm looking to work outside the US job market, and I'm also open to public and private sector opportunities afterward so I feel less compelled to bend over backwards 100% of the time. It is incredibly important to find ways to carve out time for yourself though. If you don't, the insanity only gets worse and faculty will keep asking you for your time. Routine is crucial, as is keeping your research and your goals in mind.

No. I'm guessing from previous threads and the results page that UNC typically gives one acceptance out very early (to a very good applicant that they nominate for a fellowship) then everyone else comes later.

True, but maybe by then the "window of opportunity" to really freak us out closed?/narrowed?
I - for my part - hope that by february I will be more relaxed

I think this is kind of my new standard response. Between those of us who have been active and engaged, I'm sure we have some people who are connected with all these schools and we will get good information when it is actually available... so, that being said, is someone doesn't come into this thread with some kind of direct knowledge, I call shenanigans. I am assuming the results page is troll infested.
