  1. And that's a wrap. Just submitted my last application. If anyone is in the Nassau this weekend I have a show opening at the DAF and an artist talk this Saturday.
  2. Hey guys, So I am thinking about thank you gifts that I can send to my recommenders but I am a bit stuck. I don't want to be too cheesy but at the same time I am watching the amount of $$$ that I am going to spend. Any suggestions? If you wrote a recommendation for someone what would be an appropriate gift? Also is it too early to send thank you's, should I wait until I hear back from programs? Thanks in Advance!
  3. Anybody got their fee waived from Columbia or Hunter? Just curious? I feel as though I hadn't even finished typing Hunter to ask for one and they responded with a no. Columbia hasn't answered me at all. (UCLA also told me no)
  4. Hey @sylviecerise totally silly question but do you know if you can reorder the images in UCLA's application once uploaded? I dread the thought of having to delete everything just to upload them.
  5. @sylviecerise I resized all of my images to be under 2000px squared and stored them in one separate folder, that way upload is easy breezy. I told you guys, this UCLA application is no joke. I am still on the fence on whether or not I am going to submit for this especially after finding out that my Black @$& don't qualify for the diversity fellowship.
  6. @sylviecerise Thanks. I am failing at life at the moment.
  7. Everybody got your transcripts into UCLA on time? I think I might have to drop UCLA. Everywhere else accepts an unofficial transcript for the initial phase, not UCLA. Any thoughts? Am I the only one on this sinking ship?
  8. @Zander Good luck! I believe that Tyler is a great place @sylviecerise it is truly monotonous. Honestly.
  9. @sylviecerise I swear UCLA's application is designed to weed out the faint of heart. There are so many essays! Yes I am writing the personal essay. I am also applying for the diversity fellowship and that's an extremely strenuous essay. Plus I don't get why the statement of purpose and artist statement are two separate entities when they basically address similar concerns. Not to mention that the images all have to by under 2000*2000 pixels or the site rejects them.
  10. @sylviecerise Hahahaha! I was so spell-bound by the fact that I actually got the application in, that I couch-potatoed all day! UCLA due on Sunday. Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!
  11. I am missing a recommendation as well. At this point I am not stressing it at all. According to admissions, recommendations can come in a little after the deadline just not other materials from the applicant. Either way 0 stress. 50 abstract words for Rutgers can be fun! A friend of mine challenged me to boil down to one sentence.
  12. We should all chill and have a beer after the application deadline. P.S I just submitted.
  13. Hey, I am an international student but I don't have to take TOEFL, English is my native language. Good luck with the TOEFL! You should be able to submit your scores electronically using yale's institution 3987 code if you log onto your ETS page. This sends the scores directly to them. Also, I can't see why this would be an issue if it was post-marked well in advance. More than likely they'll wait on your scores but I would call 2034322600 them just to be safe and let them know your situation. Good luck!
  14. I could be wrong but I interpreted "Applications must be submitted online no later than 12 midnight EST on January 4, 2017" to mean tonight at 12:00 AM is the cut off. Because 1 minute after 11:59:59 the next day would be would be 5th January. None the less, I am not taking any chances.
  15. Happy New Year Everyone, Just as a heads up, Yale's application is due tonight: artist statement, C.V, portfolio, application. The recommendations aren't due immediately but you should encourage your recommenders to submit ASAP. (I know this sounds weird because the site kind of frowns upon not having everything in tonight) I just spoke with admissions. (Spent my BDAY yesterday chugging away at two last min images) Bonne chance!
  16. Hey guys, Some of you applied to Yale in the past. Can you please help with how the word interest is interpreted in the prompt below? I was talking to friend who has her Master's an explained that interest does not have to be relegated to the work or your philosophy as an artist but can also be used to show that you're a human that does other things than art. A one-page statement that addresses your influences, interests, current work direction, brief life history, and reasons for applying to a graduate program at this time. The statement should be no more than 500 words and should make reference to the representative work in your portfolio. (Sorry @PoMo Blues, not applying there) Thanks anyone who can help.
  17. @Zander Homeopathic Concoction for Race Relations. 2016
  18. Eighteen more days to go (more or less). I am rephotographing (which really means recreating) a project that I did in the past. Good documentation matters!
  19. Thank you. Meghan and Nicole, super helpful. I didn't realize WashU doesn't interview. That's interesting for a school that's really on the come up. I'm flying Delta, direct and then will probably wing it with the cheaper airline once I get/if I get any invites.
  20. If you have the confidence to apply to any of those schools above then what scares you about Yale? I don't mean to sound harsh, just the baggage, history and politics of Yale, Tyler, Hunter, wherever you apply has very little to do with your work. I'd say if you are thinking about those schools above why not Yale? Frankly speaking, it's not that Tyler (or Hunter or SMFA) accepts any less of a student than Yale. I did my undergrad at Tyler so I maybe a bit partial but Tyler had excellent students, professors and facilities, a few of whom were grads or affiliated with Yale. (I feel like a dick saying this) I think the question should be whether or not you are ready for grad school rather than whether your work is ready for Yale. Consider why is grad school important at this time in your life.
  21. Hey Folks, So I am applying to Yale, WashU, SAIC (just missed the early action deadline), Hunter College and UPENN sculpture where applicable. I'm applying from the Caribbean and plan on flying up if invited to interview. Because flying can be expensive, does anybody have rough dates of interview dates/schedule? More than likely I'll start from NYC and connect from there to New Haven, St.Louis etc. Ticket prices are extremely cheap at the moment! I'd appreciate the help. Hope everyone's almost ready!
  22. Hey Zander, Truth be told, had it not been for what happened at Roski last year, I would be happy to work with Patty Chang or Kori Newkirk. I admire both of their work. Don't know Edgar's work. Suzanne Lacy however, I think is weird. Not to throw her under the bus or anything but I think her work is too pragmatic and a friend of mine interned for her and I could tell she wasn't happy.
