  1. I don't know specifially about commitment to practice but you should try Tyler School of Art, Temple University. I know they are sort of generous when it comes to funding. There's a university fellowship that all grad applicants who qualified are automatically considered for which I believe covers a considerable amount of tuition + if you are a person of colour, there's the future faculty award which aims at diversing academia, free ride + stipend. Wish I could help more. Good luck though.
  2. I don't know about painting but definitely can speak on the ceramics program there. It is awesome! I have a friend doing grad school on a fully funded awarded. P.S I am always suspicious when schools hide their students like that.
  3. I missed the deadline for this. Did you apply? What's the tea?
  4. I don't know which schools, in which regions, you are applying to but this sounds like not the best idea. You can damage your posture by doing this long term. Are you applying to frigid areas where there is lots of snow? Not to mention the possibility of things like Carbon Monoxide poisoning, the silent killer. If you can't afford housing talk to someone in Student Affairs, there is bound to be some assistance available. Worst case scenario crash in your studio during off hours. My humble advice, sometimes the expense is worth the comfort. After being in the studio for long hours, you might just need the space to relax even if it is a cheap place that you share with other Grad students. P.S maybe look at places where the rent is cheaper? I did undergrad in Philly rent was as low as $350 a month depending on where you stay and with how many roommates. $1000 a month is a little steep + if rent is that expensive the cost of living is probably equally as high.
  5. So last night I had the most disturbing dream ever. I dreamt that I was being interviewed for an MFA program at RISD (It gets better, this is but a dream). My appointment was 2PM. I got there at 1:30PM. At 1:50PM I stood outside the space, double checking my slides for the presentation and realized that my first slide was a complete mess. So for some bizarre reason, the interview space was outdoors and in the Caribbean on a stony Hill, and the interviewers watched me correct the mistake from the inside looking out. I walked in at exactly 2PM. There sat Theaster Gates, Pepon Osorio, a friend of mine -who is an artist- and the fourth interviewer left because I wasn't there before 2PM. Theaster told me "If you want to get into YALE, you have to respect our time. So we are deducting 10 minutes from your interview." Am I the only one tripping? Good luck everyone!
