  1. Congratulations to everyone so far! And to you guys who haven't gotten quite what you wanted; don't give up! I don't believe in the theory of No, rather I believe in No(t right now). So keep making the work and most importantly stay true to who you are and what motivates you and why you make art. I also wanted to share with you guys. I got admitted into SAIC with a full scholarship in sculpture!
  2. Been busy for the past day or so in Chicago; I missed yal! Did you miss me back? Interviewed at UPenn so far, no response. Interviewed at SAIC yesterday. Got my first Acceptance on Friday into UCLA .
  3. I'm down. Flight gets in round 6PM. I think I should be settled by 8PM. I want to see how you Chicago folks hangout.
  4. Well, I applied for $@u!pTuR& so I don't know about the entire program. The head of the $@u!pTuR& program and i spoke, then later I got a call from Rodney around 9PM eastern. @crembrule where are you looking at?
  5. Sure, it was just an email saying that I was among the finalist still under consideration for admissions. The email also requested that we chat either Wednesday or Thursday. I did it yesterday, it was pretty much more of a discussion of my work and how it would fit into the program. We skyped for about an hour and fifteen minutes. It fluctuated between us talking intense politics to us laughing things off. Only one downer was when I was asked about other programs that I am looking at, I was so conflicted about answering this question. How would you guys have responded?
  6. I'm in Chicago tomorrow. For the third time, a well-respected art person has told me that my work would not get what it needs at SAIC. The dismaying part is my ticket is booked already. Aghhhhhhhhhh! Moral of the story: all that glitters is not gold.
  7. Way to go on chasing your dreams man! I just wanted to share this artist I met a year or two ago. He's from a very sciency background http://aguiller.com/index.php?/about-this-site/ Visiting his studio made me feel like a caveman. Maybe this could help a bit.
  8. WOW! Much respect to you man! I love it when folks come into art with non-art backgrounds! Some of my favorite artist didn't go to art school during undergrad or at all. I'm no pro but I believe most Fine Arts schools in the US replenish first-year students through the admissions process, which all of us are going through at the moment so there isn't much of a "need" per-se to contact a professor. Some Art History programs however, I believe function like this where they admit upon request /need/inquiry/interest. None the less Good luck!
  9. Applying to Grad School is like watching a season of Rupaul's Drag Race play out in real time. May the best woman, win!
  10. People I say this with all love and admiration. Don't let a rejection (or even going to an alternate) control the direction of your life. When I was 20 I applied to RISD. It was every student's dream to go to RISD, where I am from. That year I was the only one admitted. It was an out of this world feeling. I couldn't tell you what it was about RISD or Providence but I know RISD is what I wanted. Fast forward six years later and I graduated from Tyler School of Art. Did I regret it? Not one iota. Was Tyler my dream school? Not close; but I got everything I needed from it and more. I was shaped in ways I wouldn't be at RISD. Here I am now, rejected by Yale and I could only tell you how much I dreamt of wearing a Yale hoodie but ya know what? You have to keep chugging! Maybe Yale wasn't for me and that's why I didn't get an interview but I am moving forward. The universe along with your active decision making will take you in the direction you need to be going in. Positive vybez.
  11. WOW! Sorry. Hoping you applied to other places where this may not be likely to happen.
  12. Hey @arte sorry, I should have clarified. I meant Sam Fox at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
  13. So, there's only UCLA and Washington University in St. Louis left to hear back from on my end. Hopefully, WashU will come through soon. If UCLA doesn't accept unsolicited reference letters and only ask for them when interested in a candidate, would there be anyway of finding out if UCLA asked for a reference on your behalf? Do you get notified when someone submits? UCLA's admission process seems to be the most encrypted procedure.
  14. I agree. Applying to G-School was enough of a fish to fry. (Plus I am going to Leipzig for a 6-week residency + visiting the Venice Biennial in May + a residency in NJ later in the summer) Good luck with your Skowhegan app though @Tyra1992!
  15. I did. I am interviewing on 28th for sculpture in person. Alex told me they'll send additional info in the coming week. I completed the CSS profile yesterday and that was all.
