  1. I'd say I'll expect things by the end of third week and start of 4th ? But yeah won't complain if I hear a positive news this week ?
  2. SFU, UBC, UofT, Waterloo, McGill. Nothing from all 5 yet.
  3. Second week of April... Let the suffering begin. Not expecting anything this week either but still can't keep my mind off these things. The fact that the whole idea of doing a masters from Canada is hanging in the balance makes me anxious and uncomfortable.
  4. The rejections came as a wave I believe. Couple of people got rejected...Now UBC is holding admits as well just like McGill..
  5. I applied there and have heard nothing yet. For interviews I think it depends on the professor. If he/she feels to have a chat, they can go for it else it's not a requirement as far as I know.
  6. They've actually sent out most offers, and only a few, if there are any will be sent this month. I am myself expecting a reject from there now since I haven't heard anything from them yet. I called UBC and it turns out the automated system asks me to record a message. They didn't give me an option to talk to someone in person so I didn't pursue it. Maybe I'll try tomorrow.
  7. I'll call them today. EDIT: So I called Diti who's the Graduate Program Coordinator at McGill Computer Science, and she said that due to the increased number of applications that they got this year, the review process is taking a lot of time. However they wish to give out all decisions by the end of April. She said they might try to send all offers before that, but that's the latest date. When I asked her how many offers have already been made for the class she said she doesn't remember that. So folks, as I mentioned earlier, brace yourselves for another 4 weeks. SFU has May 1st as the latest date by which they will send decisions, and so does UBC (I think). I'll call UBC today and ask for information from them too.
  8. We were talking about McGill. I only applied to SFU from your list and haven't heard anything.
  9. Do share the number with me. I'll try calling them too sometime. I saw another rejection (though from MSc in EE). They're are definitely holding on acceptance notifications at the moment. They'll probably send them once they're done with the review (which they don't seem to have completed yet). Any reply via email?
  10. I think we should brace ourselves not just for one week, but four of them. As they say, it's not over until the bird sings. May 1 is the deadline by which all decisions from Canadian schools should be out no matter what. Between that and today, we have 4 weeks so let's put on our glasses and prepare for the anxiety storm that's gonna hit us hard (I just ordered pizza to soothe my anxiety down) AFAIK, it's common for phone conversations to happen between applicants and graduate offices. However I don't believe they'll answer directly if you're admitted or not. They can probably give you some date by which we can expect a decision, or some other insight like if our application made it past the initial review or not. It's basically on how well you can communicate and how much you can get out of the person on phone. For us international folks though, it's fairly uncommon, but people tend to call when they have urgent matters (like some problem with the application or such).
  11. It's going to be a very sad, anxious week for me if it comes to this. I am praying if the acceptance is on the way then it comes on Monday their time. I'm not local so the very idea of calling them is not something that sounds obvious to me. I'll have to wake up in the middle of the night to be able to talk to them, and the bills to call internationally, can only imagine. However I've seen a lot of people on the forum call up schools and inquire about their application. Heck they even get phone notifications that they are accepted/rejected. I don't think you need to be brave to call them, isn't it like...normal stuff for domestic or in-country applicants?
  12. I agree with you... It's a paradox. They tell you not to contact personally, but to improve our chances it always helps contacting. What a conundrum... Did you contact McGill? Any response so far? I'm still at "Submitted" ?
  13. I beg to differ. The fact that 4 out of 5 programs that I applied to clearly mentioned on their page that contacting faculty is not required and that the supervisors will be assigned to you according to your profile by the admission committee. In the last program, the professors to which I expressed interest working with had clearly stated on their homepages that they will not entertain any graduate position request via email, and that if you are interested apply via normal method and they will review your application that way. One professor had a PHP form embedded on his homepage for students to fill, which when submitted sends an email to him. He replied to me in positive, and encouraged to apply, even though our research matches perfectly. It is NOT always the case that NOT having a faculty connection and communication will certainly mean low chances. Not by any means. So if you haven't contacted faculty, its fine, chances are a lot of people haven't and they expect it that way. P.S No news from Waterloo, SFU, UBC, UofT, McGill.
  14. I'll do that today! Thanks for the advice!
  15. I mentioned two professors in the SOP as well, however I did not contact them by email. Even I haven't seen any acceptance in yesterday's wave, so maybe we have a fighting chance. I never emailed the graduate department, I always used the chat system in the portal. They usually take too long to reply and they haven't replied to a query of mine which I sent them 4 days back, so I don't know what we can do to get faster response. You email them and let me know their response...
  16. Not yet man...Still nothing from their side.
  17. @Canadaspirant Did you apply to McGill?
  18. Fingers crossed. They did keep their word of sending decisions by March end. But most seem to be rejections until now. Hope acceptances come later in the day. (It's night here so I'm going to kiss my sleep goodbye and stay glued to my screen all night).
  19. None that I know of. Mine says Submitted as well... All people I know got rejected.
  20. Yup. They also send an auto-generated rejection letter in pdf form. However they don't mention any reason besides the usual "too many good applications for too few spots" and such.
  21. I'm so sorry... Did you apply to McGill? You might want to check your portal..
  22. McGill sending CS decisions, two of my friends got rejected.
  23. It was significant, if not a mass one. I personally knew a couple of folks who got rejected. They didn't post on results section though, that's why there are only 2 rejects there. Oh boy...That doesn't sound very positive. But it might be because he won't need to call you on Skype anymore coz he'll have you in his lab soon ??
  24. 31st March is tonight for McGill. Let's see if they keep their word of sending all CS decisions by March end or they postpone it (again for the second time).
