Omg oops i realized that was unclear. I'm still accepted! the follow-up e-mail was to confirm that the prior e-mail was an error - my application was fully submitted, and they received it.- 232 replies

Women's/Feminist/Gender Studies Fall 2017
kekology4 replied to kekology4's topic in Interdisciplinary Studies
@kguptaa congrats!!! good luck. So last week Stony Brook, who already accepted me, sent me an email saying they never got my application. I thought it was weird, and probably an error. Just got an email today confirming it, and letting me know they requested to return my application fee. okay!- 232 replies

Welcome @Interdisc_Scholar and @foodnerd! good luck. i think that kind of critical food analysis is so interesting @foodnerd. reminds me of "eating the other" by bell hooks. I think that's a wonderful approach to teaching, and one I share. As you said, the higher education industry is so exploitative. A good coincidence that i'm reading marx as i'm about to enter higher ed. As educators we really have the opportunity to dispel that anger and despair so many students will be feeling, as so many of them are being exploited as well. I'm thrilled to be able to do that. I also share the feeling of hope from other students and instructors. There are so many people in this collective struggle together - we are never alone

great advice. this is a big thing motivating me to do a graduate certificate in cultural studies, if i do stony brook wgs. cultural studies is certainly not a traditional discipline, but it's something other than wgs, which is what my undergrad is in as well.- 232 replies

That's true. And my family lives on long island, about 40 mins west of SB, so its perfect. I was actually just looking at their cultural studies certificate today, and strongly considering it. It seems like a great program, so much of the work I'm interested in can be considered cultural studies, and the courses seemed interesting. I would love to take the one on neoliberal narratives. Were you able to see courses for terms other than spring 17? i really want to see more past courses but can't find anything.

@The Shade King oh god, yeah i feel like two messages of rejection is unnecessary. we just need the one I still have five programs to hear back from, three of which had applications due in december. I got a great offer with full funding to stony brook WGS, but for them I'm also waiting to hear back on a fellowship nomination. So. much. waiting. It's given me a lot of time to look at their program though, and it seems like a wonderful fit.

condolences @The Shade King. Never in my life have the months of january and february gone so slowly.

@suisui congratulations on your acceptance! If you gave some more specific information on your project and the research you're interested in doing, that would help me give you advice. I think Women's and gender studies is a good place for working between the disciplines that you want to work with.- 232 replies

Thanks for the congratulations y'all! congratulations @SEAsianInternational! Keep us updated as you narrow down. I cant believe they gave me a day and a half to write this fellowship statement lol. They said the schedule was not theirs which I totally understand, but it put me in quite the predicament. @Shira70008 I'm applying to UCLA gender studies as well. To my knowledge it's considered one of the better programs. And the school itself UCLA has a great reputation. "UCLA is No. 2 among American public universities and No. 10 in the world, according to the U.S. News and World Report 2017 Best Global Universities rankings that were published today." Hi all! So I got incredibly short notice to submit a personal statement for this fellowship I was nominated for. They want one page but don't say if it should be single- or double-spaced. Any ideas on what may be more likely? Is there any sort of precedent 4 grad school, like how undergrad was nearly all double-spaced?
