Fall 2017 Clinical Psychology Applicants
tomorrowforgotten replied to FacelessMage's topic in Psychology Forum
I understand! I'm doing this all while in my final semester of undergrad. I'm missing class time, time to work on my thesis, and other things. Every time I get back from an interview time starts and I have to play catch up to ensure my grades stay up to par and thesis gets done. It can be very stressful, but hang in there! We're almost done! -

I've been accepted to some programs and don't have any interview invites pending or anything, BUT I can't stop refreshing my email. This process has totally wrecked me mentally; I refresh my email every five minutes. Idk what I'm expecting to come! Anyway, I just thought I'd share and use this as an opportunity to tell everyone to go out and have fun! I know everyone isn't done yet and some are still waiting, but self care is so important! I encourage everyone to go catch a movie, hang with friends, SOMETHING. Just stop refreshing!! Good things will come! -

I've recently went through this. I ended up canceling to save money. This process has been too expensive to go to schools I'm no longer interested in attending. -
It seems that it would make more sense, speaking strictly time and money, to just get a PhD in clinical psychology at a research heavy program.

No - I'm waiting to finish all my interviews before I make a decision. I have declined an offer that I knew for sure I would not attend no matter what, though. -

Most of my offers have ranged from $13,500 - $25,000. I have no idea what would be enough, but graduate students at each place have said they made it work. -

I emailed mine and other falculty. Nothing too long -- just three lines saying thanks for the interview and that I enjoyed talking to them. -

For me, it has ranged from two hours - two days. My schools have been pretty quick about letting me know if I've been accepted. -
I wore a pair of nice jeans and a t-shirt to both dinners. I was sure to ask my host student if it was okay, and they assured me that it was. Best advice? Just ask a grad student.

YES. A thumbs up couldn't justify how much I agree with being broke and tired of flying. It's a GREAT problem to have, but it is exhausting. -

I thought we all hugged and made up? May I suggest we Full House the hell out of this and hug to melodramatic music? -
If you're already working in the lab, producing good work, and fit in with the lab culture. Then yeah, you would certainly have an advantage. The professor would know you and you would be "less of a risk" than a new student. Why take a chance when you already have a perfectly good student who already knows their way around? Alternatively, if you're a terrible undergrad or have a maladaptive personality, then I imagine you would be at a disadvantage. After all, you wouldn't be able to hide it or cover it up in an interview since the professor already knows you. Basically, if you're a strong student I imagine it will work in your favor. If you're a bad student, then it would prObably work against you.

Don't stress -- they are actually pretty laid back from my experience. I've had 3 in the past month. One even called when I was playing Xbox and we talked about food for a solid 20 mins. I doubt that will be your experience, but I definitely wouldn't stress! Have a note card with a few questions and just have a conversation. I'm sure you'll do great! -
Think I could get away with wearing basketball shorts and a white t-shirt?

Perhaps the delivery wasn't what you would prefer, but that doesn't make it any less true/helpful. OP appeared to be apathetic towards the school (evident by the surfing comment) and didn't seem to think very highly of it ("better ranked" programs comment). If those were reflected in the SOP then it is very reasonable to think that is a reason he didn't get accepted. We are all stressed -- rightfully so. So I can understand that. I can also understand the posters who probably applied to the very school the OP didn't seem to think much of. Might not be the greatest feeling to discover that the program you worked hard to apply to, some think may only be good for surfing. Can't expect empathy when you don't give it. But, YES, have a great Super Bowl Sunday! (Unless you're a Patriots fan - I WILL bash you for that ) Also - best of luck to everyone applying this term! Hopefully interview month goes well. -

No one bashed him. Not even close to what I would consider bashing. He asked on what basis the school could reject him -- I provided feedback on a potential reason why. Furthermore, being stressed doesn't afford you with the right to talk down on a school. There was nothing "graceless" about with anyone said, IMO. It was all in the same vain as the OP's original message.
