  1. Sorry to hear that thanks! do you mind telling me what school that was?
  2. thanks everyone!!
  3. Does anybody know how many people generally get invited for interviews and what percent are ultimately accepted?
  4. You could try emailing someone in the department and asking if all interview requests have been sent out. I did this twice, and the professors seemed open to explaining the current situation.
  5. hopefully you will hear soon!
  6. oh that's interesting. Do you mind telling me what program that was for?
  7. perfect, thanks so much! Did your POI expect you to have a specific research project in mind, or did you talk mostly about your interests and what types of projects you might be interested in?
  8. Anybody have any advice for Skype interviews?
  9. It sounds like you might also be interested in discourse analysis if you're interested in "persuasive" and "aesthetic" language. You might look at Georgetown and Michigan. Also, thought I would mention that the founder of Williams' Ling Department moved to my undergrad department and was actually my thesis advisor! It's a small ling world.
  10. I didn't apply to UCSB.. I considered it but decided against it. Sorry about you not getting an interview request yet! It's likely that they haven't sent them all out yet. And NYU is a really great program, so you should be proud of that!
  11. I just checked, and it seems last year NYU sent out a request one week earlier than the others, so you're probably right!
  12. congrats on the interview! My specialization is sociolinguistics. I'm not holding my breath though. NYU is ultra selective. EDIT: so you were the person who posted in the gradcafe results, or was that someone else?
  13. does anybody know if all interview requests are sent out at the same time, or if it varies by school? I saw the interview request at NYU and am now really nervous
  14. good luck to you as well!
  15. So I submitted my application to UChicago at 11:30 pm Chicago time on the 15th, but the application system says it was submitted on the 16th. I'm assuming the system is set to EST time instead of Central time. There was no note of this anywhere on the website, so I just assumed I should go by the timezone of the University, given that this is what all other universities I applied to expected. I contacted the Director of Graduate Studies regarding the situation. Am I screwed?
  16. I also applied to Stanford and Georgetown! Socio seems to be popular. I was rejected from Stanford last year so I decided to re-apply. I was admitted to Georgetown but without funding, so I deferred my admission and am being reconsidered for funding along with this year's applicant pool.
