I imagine visit days are going to be one of the biggest factors in my decision. I've already been accepted into a very good1 school for one of my AOI. And looking at what they're doing over there, so long as my interests don't radically change, it'd be a nice place to be for 5-6 years. I haven't dug into placement yet, nor the effects of specializing basically as soon as I start. I've yet to hear back from anywhere with a substantially higher overall ranking2, but if I do, that will be another axis to consider. 1 top-ranked for the specialty 2 obligatory note about how I'm not a big fan of rankings but acknowledge their importance, both for future considerations and that they probably did something to be as such. That circles back to the fit problem, exacerbated by degrees of uncertainty about what I will come to want to do in the coming years.

Saw a Syracuse acceptance. Checked the portal and nothing. At least I'll be at the Compass workshop this weekend. Vigorously checking my email between sessions, but that's better than being at my computer all weekend. Anyone else going?

On the bright side of this all, I did finally clean out my inbox. Down to 0 unread messages.

I heard Arizona is predicted for Tuesday or Thursday this week. Portal says notifications either way will be via email. Today is Thursday.

I got a 337 on try one. I used the powerprep program on the ETS website to be familiar with the format. The biggest thing that caught me off-guard was the time limits being way lower than expected. (Like, I knew the numbers of minutes beforehand, but the practice tests felt dramatically easier.) Relaxing is probably the most important move so you can get through quickly. Remembering all that stuff from high school is probably also a good move.

I thought I'd relax after getting an acceptance. But since UA is predicted to respond yesterday, I'm checking my email every hour again...

From what I've gathered, there is little consistency from school to school. Email seems to be the most popular route, but I wouldn't ignore your phone. If the school is well past the prediction date and/or other people are posting about it, you might want to check the portal. Business hours are common, but there have been acceptances sent out in the 11pm-3am range before. Since nobody demands a response until April 15, you don't really need to worry until April, of course.

Interesting. I haven't even thought of the process as a negotiation. Just offers to be taken or left, and standardized throughout. Wrt private information, I assume they'd assume most people will at least go on FB and post their good news. And this forum isn't new. So if they wanted secrecy, they'd ask..

I don't remember all of the details she mentioned, though I do remember she said specifically they haven't had any courses in metaphysics in the few years she's been there.
-
Is there some unwritten rule about not sharing admission information? I see people posting about admissions with their real names but then others taking anonymity measures.
-
If it's any solace to people looking at IU, I heard from someone there that metaphysics has been deemphasized lately, and O'Connor wasn't super active with grad students lately. (I was going to apply there until I heard this.) I also screwed up on my SOP, though, not realizing until after I submitted everywhere to actually check the ages of people. Maybe mentioning multiple faculty over 70 at a single school wasn't the best move available.

Got the good news from Mizzou about an hour ago. Accepted with funding (and fellowship nomination). Via email.

Are you talking about tuition fee waivers or academic fee waivers? I was told I have a ~$2000 fee to pay yearly (reduced after establishing residency to ~$1000) if I attend, but the ~$18000/year tuition is covered. Also, I plan on coming by March 31/April 1 for the visit day; I'd love to visit you then. Also also, @PhDorBUST, I was emailed about funding through a 20hr/wk TAship yesterday.

@Congratulating people: Thanks @Franzkafka: https://admissions.fsu.edu/StatusCheck/

I didn't get an email, but when I just checked my status at Florida State it says I'm accepted. So, you know, 1. WOO HOO!, but also 2. If anyone applied to FSU, maybe check your status on the website.

I've been spending a lot of time with people. The time consumption of preparing my writing sample overtook my life enough to where just being around people has been nice. And since the semester is starting and grad schools don't really see my final semester, I'm taking my last real opportunity to take a bunch of classes that just sound fun. (Which is still all of the philosophy courses on offer, but also some zanier stuff like The Devil in Literature.)

I only came to this forum initially because my friend applying to math programs didn't know where to find people. I imagine more popular social media has taken a significant portion of the audience, as it has from pretty much every forum.
