  1. Hi all — I haven’t followed this forum in a couple of years and I know decisions have already been made, but just popping in as a recent Tulane MA graduate (‘19) to say that the program was amazing for my needs (Additional prep for PhD programs in classical arch.) Every single member of the faculty is wonderful and it’s a supportive environment. I really couldn’t have had a better experience and I feel like the program is a hidden gem that often gets overlooked among funded US MA programs. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about the program or New Orleans. Congrats to all on your decisions.
  2. Happy April 15th everyone! I just got back from visiting Tulane and couldn't be happier with the program and members of the department. I'm so glad I saw a gradcafe post urging people to apply to their program a while back!
  3. Final week plot twist! Received news I've been taken off the funding wait list at Tulane. This changes things...
  4. just finished the Cambridge interview. they were nice but their questions were tough. alea iacta est!
  5. That's so awesome! Buy a warm coat
  6. This must be some kind of sick joke. The day after the Trinity deadline, I get acceptances from Edinburgh and Durham and an interview request from Cambridge. All at once!!! The others are roughly the same as Trinity (and a lot more expensive), so I'm forgoing them, but can't pass up an interview with Cambridge. How's everyone else doing?
  7. Thanks everyone! My undergrad is in IR and my university didn't even offer intro classical languages, so honestly I'm just happy/surprised to be doing something that's not a postbac, let alone a program in a city like Dublin and a university like Trinity! All of the hustling to no-credit night school Latin at a nearby university and filling in every bit of time with related things paid off. Anyone else have news?
  8. Ended up choosing Trinity, though I'm still on the wait list for Tulane. I'm excited - my undergrad institution is pretty much the opposite of picturesque Trinity in every way, plus moving to Dublin for a year will be a nice change of pace before coming back for the PhD. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting and/or deciding!
  9. Trinity College Dublin wants a deposit by Wednesday, but I just found out I was admitted but wait listed for funding at Tulane. The wait continues...
  10. I agree w/virgil; that sounds like a good decision. I've seen a lot of FSU alumni on the current student lists of top programs. It's a marathon, not a sprint (as I always try to remind myself)! And a funded MA is definitely something to be proud of. Is there a reason you're not considering Boulder anymore?
  11. Yeah, it seems neat. Maybe I'll go visit - it's close to home so it'd be pretty easy to do on short notice. Congratulations on FSU! And funding, sweet!

  13. Not me, good luck! But I did get into CUNY Grad Center MA Classics yesterday. I was kind of discounting the program because the offerings are so literature-focused and I'm into material culture/arch, but I found out you can cross-register with NYU ISAW and Columbia... it's messing with my mental ranking of choices, haha.
  14. @Canonical I got some info from a prof in the Cambridge Classics dept regarding MPhil consideration: "since the beginning of this year have been concentrating on processing the very large number of applications where a decision had to be made by yesterday’s funding deadline. Once we have drawn breath we will proceed to process remaining applicants, who will include you. You should hear from us within the next month, most probably within the next fortnight." Hope that means we will hear (good) news soon!
  15. My other big area of interest (besides Magna Graecia) is the Severan dynasty, especially its monumental architecture and self-representation, so I'm really interested in Kleiner's work on monuments. But three people have posted acceptances to the PhD in the past 24 hours, so I'm rapidly losing hope... we must persevere!
  16. @terraaurea Yup!
  17. Congrats! That's exciting. I'm waiting on BU art history, very interested in working with a certain prof who's jointly appointed in both depts
  18. Yup, mine was in Dec. 21 and I'm still awaiting... good to know I'm not the only one. April 27 would be pretty much impossible for me, since American schools want a decision by April 15. Will keep an eye on the student room threads. Good luck to you too!
  19. Has anyone here applied to Cambridge and moved out of the "awaiting department consideration" stage? It's been a while and I haven't gotten an email response from the Grad. Sec.
  20. Agreed - I'm from the NY burbs so commuting to Columbia's program seemed like a good fallback... until I saw the price
  21. @terraaurea I'm not an expert by any means, but it looks like there are federal loans available for Columbia's post-bac if you're at least enrolled half-time+ http://sps.columbia.edu/certificates/classics-certificate/tuition-and-financing/financial-resources Side note: I'm dying of anticipation now that, based on previous years, my top 2 are releasing decisions any day now. I think I might get banned from my email server for refreshing too much.
  22. Yes!! I dug in Apulia this past summer and loved it. Sadly, my only experience with Lucania was going to Metaponto one weekend and getting caught in a vicious rainstorm, haha. But yes, we should talk...
  23. Congratulations!!!!
  24. Ah yeah, that's a deficiency. I'm into Roman arch but also Magna Graecia/pre-Roman southern Italy, so I was interested in their profs in that area. I also applied to BU (art history), Tulane, SUNY Buffalo, and Cambridge, and have offers from Trinity College Dublin and Uni. Sheffield (arch dept) for MAs. I'm pretty early on in my process of narrowing my research interests and am coming from a different undergrad major, so only two PhD programs - they're reaches but I've got my fingers crossed, haha. It's tricky trying to find a suitable department with such an interdisciplinary field! At some places it's classics, at others it's art history, others archaeology... If I end up just doing an MA this cycle, I'd really like to apply to IPCAA when I finish it.
  25. Archaeologists: What are your thoughts on Harvard for classical arch, especially those of you who didn't apply? It's my top choice right now due to relationship/family limitations, but I've seen mixed things about it (particularly in comparison to its strengths in other fields).
