I agree with everyone above regarding contacting POI's. I know with all the early acceptances rights now, it might predispose us to panic. Most schools have still not sent out decisions, and if trends follow (I know there's been a few surprises this year), most of us will hear back from programs in February. Gotta keep our heads up
I just want to say that as a first year applicant, reading everyone's comments on the PhD process has been incredibly assuring. I am loving the solidarity, and hope that over the next couple of weeks we are all able to ground ourselves in our passions.
Anyone else been freaking out about Trump's announcement to cut down on the humanities, and what that might mean for us? I'll be at the march protesting, but I can't help shake the feeling that even if I get into a program that things may look even dimmer than they currently are.
I'd say that based on the results posted history, most of those schools won't notify until at least February. Also, for this application cycle no one has posted in regards to any of those schools too! I completely understand though, I am also freaking out and incredibly anxious. But I say find comfort in that, at least according to the record history, a lot of people do not hear until February, if not March.
Yes, that's exactly how I felt when I saw someone got an acceptance from MSU! I certainly agree though that right now more than ever it is important to take things slow, and remind ourselves that our worth is not measure by the results of our apps (even though it can feel that way).
If the admissions result do not lie, it appears someone got an acceptance from Cambridge back in November (but they up the results today)? Is that standard for schools outside of the U.S.?
I've been doing the same. Every day I think to myself "Another day of Science majors acceptances, oh well " . I have noticed that as time passes though, the responses have become less STEM-y and more Linguistics, psychology, etc.
I applied to nine schools (all English PhD programs). I am wishing everyone best of luck with the results, and that we all get into at least one program.
Thank you! That's reassuring to know. In the mean time, I hope that I am able to focus on finishing my MA thesis. It's just so hard because I am caught between wanting to finish, and finding ways to try to make the time pass.
Hello!
Yes I am a big fan of both! Waiting for the LoK comic is driving me almost as anxious as these apps!
Hello everyone,
I am applying to English PhD programs for the fall of 2017! I am a long time lurker but recently made an account. I am a little anxious because I only applied to 7 programs (ahhh :/). Seeing all the acceptances already (mostly to science programs) is frustrating. I know most English programs start sending theirs around February but I am still panicking.
