  1. I accepted my offer to attend the University of Pittsburgh in the Fall of 2017. They are so many wonderful and supportive people there that I would love to work with.
  2. I just turned down CU-Boulder and Iowa, as I will be attending the University of Pittsburgh in the fall of 2017. I am sad I had to turn these amazing programs down, but I hope that someone else is able to join them!
  3. I wanted to inform everyone that I've declined offers to attend University of Florida, Stony Brook University, Michigan State, and Marquette. I hope this helps, and I will make sure to inform everyone whenever I decline two of the remaining 3.
  4. Thank you for such a helpful response to the question of rankings. These are the sort of responses I was hoping for when I made the thread.:)
  5. Of course! Yeah CU-Boulder is one of the schools I got into, and I was wonderfully surprised to see such a big jump!
  6. I know many of us (including myself), prioritize fit over rank. Still, even if rank is not a top concern, it is interesting to see shifts from the 2013 us news list. Here are the new rankings: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-humanities-schools/english-rankings I would love to hear thoughts from others!
  7. Thank you! My areas are 20th/21st century American Lit. Ecocriticism and Queer theory in specific.:)
  8. Oh no! I totally thought I had submitted under acceptances. *crawls back into my thesis crunch mode cave*
  9. Received official acceptance from Stony Brook. Last school I am waiting for is University of Florida. I cannot believe it is almost over!
  10. I also have been waitlisted at Iowa. Seems like quite a bit of us GC'ers have been!
  11. A few updates: I was accepted into Marquette, interviewed for Stony Brook, and waitlisted for Iowa. This is my first waitlist in the midst of 5 other acceptances, but I am pretty certain I've either been waitlisted or rejected at Oregon and Florida. Difficult decisions lie ahead! *shakes with nerves*
  12. Do not let imposter syndrome hold you down. I still find myself crying at the fact that I've received offers, because I had a hard time believing in the value of my work. I do wish now I was a bit more daring, I applied to many amazing programs (which I am eternally grateful to have gotten accepted into), but shut myself from applying to others because I didn't think my application would be taken seriously.
  13. I will be visiting Colorado Thursday, and Pitt on March 26. I can totally share my thoughts on Pitt after after I go, though I really hope you're able to go!
  14. I am in the same position as you! Currently deciding between two programs, Pittsburgh and Colorado. Wishing you the best in the decision the process
  15. I've also been checking the Oregon page continuously. No one on GC has posted about Oregon, so there's some hope there
  16. https://www.usnews.com/education/blogs/college-rankings-blog/articles/2017-02-21/coming-soon-2018-best-graduate-schools-rankings Apparently, the rankings will be updated on March 14th of this year. Do you foresee a lot of changes, and if so, would it be wise to wait until the new rankings are released to make a decision? I have to say that I prioritized fit over ranking, but I am also open to finding jobs outside of the academy once I finish.
  17. I have a BA and soon to be MA from the same university and have been accepted into 4 programs so far! Mind you, I did not apply to any top 20's but I do not think it should be much of a hindrance regardless.
  18. Oregon is just about the last school I am really waiting for! The other 4 schools that I applied to were great, but not perfect fits. I was also considering Washington, but their ecocritics do not really work in my area. If I go there, I am going to have to get my Earthquake gear on! It's going to be a tough choice for me between Pitt, Boulder, MSU, and Oregon if I get accepted there.
  19. Today has been rather slow... I am caught in the situation that according to gradcafe, my remaining schools do not notify until Late February / Early March. There's a big gap between my early acceptances and the later ones, and I need to restrain myself from making impulsive decisions.
  20. I am also going to be at the one in San Diego. I am so excited!
  21. I decline an acceptance to U Delaware a few days ago, I really hope someone from here got it! I will certainly post here about any others as I begin to consider more options. Good luck to everyone!
  22. I got into CU-Boulder's English PhD program! I want to cry, the amount of choices is getting overwhelming and I just feel so validated.
  23. The waiting process does feel like an exercise in patience. I am here thinking though that waiting is what we are going to be in for with the career path we've chosen. *waiting on whether we got acceptance to x conference* *waiting on whether our publication was accepted* I am trying to recognize and settle myself in the reality of waiting. At the same time, I do understand the frustration of just wanting to know. I found myself in the temptation to just accept a program already, but I smack myself out of it thinking this is a life-changing decision. I need to do it right.
