  1. If I "view application details" on the Carleton, there's now a specialization that shows up for my NPSIA app! I don't think that was there before...
  2. I highly doubt it. A prof from Carleton's MPPA said that in 2 years they've had 100% approval from the Faculty of Grad & Postdoc Affairs. I'd imagine this is similar across most programs and is generally just a formality. Looking forward to seeing the details of the NPSIA offer in the next 1-2 weeks! Any updates from GSPIA on when we should be expecting news? Also, does anyone know whether there are big differences between the co-op opportunities available to GSPIA vs. NPSIA vs. Carleton MPPA students? I've heard for GSPIA and NPSIA it's a lot of placements with the Feds and that GSPIA students pick out of the same pool as undergrad students (so perhaps a lot of the jobs are lower level?). I don't know anyone at the MPPA so would be really interested to hear the inside scoop on co-op there (e.g. are they picking out of the same pool as NPSIA students? are there a lot of MPPA students at GAC? etc. etc.).
  3. Undergraduate average around 85-90+%, depending on whether they applied a conversion factor (and if so, what conversion factor) to marks for my 3rd year study abroad. Two very strong LoR, I think, one from a former professor, one from a former work supervisor (she works as a researcher at a university though). 5 years post-undergrad international work experience coordinating research projects, plus about 1 year worth of other relevant work experience during undergrad (2 co-ops with government, TA...).
  4. Mine changed yesterday around 1pm EST from Recommended for Assessment. I'm sure they do the offers one by one, so no need to worry if yours hasn't changed yet...probably just a matter of waiting a few days for them to notify everyone on their list.
  5. 34K for Carleton's MPPA program! I just got an email from them and checked on my online profile. This is going to make for some hard decisions when the time comes...
  6. Did you get an update from them by calling or emailing? I tried emailing SCSGRAD@uOttawa.ca and just got their automatic response saying they'll try to respond within 10 days. My guess is that if they're evaluating your file for financial aid, you're definitely in though
  7. FYI, regarding OGS at UOttawa. Emailed received yesterday from the Awards Office after I asked them if they know when applicants to Social Sciences programs will be notified regarding their OGS UOttawa applications: There is no specified date. It depends on when the Faulty of Social Sciences send me their results (once I have them it takes about 12-24 hours to send the results to the students). Usually, the Faculty of Social Sciences finalize their OGS evaluations in March, but it could be April (or even May). We do not impose a deadline.
  8. Does anyone have a sense of whether jobs that one could get out of GSPIA vs NPSIA would be very different? For example, if I'm not sure whether I want to go into international affairs or just government in general (so perhaps domestic policy), would GSPIA be a better fit because it's public AND international affairs? Or would you say the name of the program doesn't matter much and either would prepare you for pretty much any government job, whether focused on domestic or international policy? I'm a bit reluctant to put myself entirely in the "international affairs" boat, because domestic public policy really interests me too...
  9. I applied to the MPPA and NPSIA for studies at Carleton (as well as GSPIA). For OGS I put MPPA, but it can be taken to NPSIA if I get into NPSIA and would rather take that program (it can't be taken to another school, however).
  10. Just got an email from Carleton that I've been given OGS funding!!! So I guess they're starting to sift through those applications now too...
  11. Was it A. McKee you emailed or someone else? I don't see someone named as Admissions Coordinator on their website... I should probably just sit tight and wait instead of bugging them by email, but it's hard to not know!!!
  12. Was this an email response to you asking about the status of your application, or an email they sent out to all candidates?
  13. Wow, that makes the wait a lot longer So GSPIA might actually be giving out offers after NPSIA this year, because past years NPSIA was around mid-March. Wonder if they're delayed this year too... I'm just hoping that with more applicants they might increase the class sizes a bit too.
  14. Wow, do you know how many applications the MPP at U of T usually gets? (i.e. is this a big jump or they typically receive way more applications than spots).
  15. I'm in the same boat. I finished my undergrad at UWaterloo in 2012 and have been working since. It was great to get so much practical experience and I'm really looking forward to continuing studies.
  16. Have you called them over the past few days about this? I found that in the past week or so they've been much more responsive over the phone, actually taking the time to get your student number and go through each missing document (and fixing the problem by the next day). It seems that if you don't call, for some issues, they don't fix it on their own.
  17. Apparently both NPSIA and GSPIA are pretty geared towards government (a GSPIA student estimated to me that perhaps 90% of NPSIA and GSPIA grads work for the federal government upon graduation). But I'm sure that you could still find private sector work. The co-op options are focused on government, I believe, so if you wanted to do co-op elsewhere (i.e. private sector, NGOs) you might have to find that yourself.
  18. Someone on last year's forum got accepted to GSPIA on Feb 11 and someone else on Feb 28. The first person sent their docs in early December, so maybe that made a difference. NPSIA: March 12th/13th in 2015, March 21 in 2016. BSIA: around end of March/early April in 2016, at least some offers in early March in 2016.
  19. I got an email too and was super excited, thinking maybe they're a little earlier this year with acceptances. Went to my file and absolutely nothing had changed haha. Maybe it's just another bug like they had a while back. For the past few weeks, my GSPIA file has had 2 letters of intent checked off and 4 transcripts from the same university for undergrad. Interesting, as you say...
  20. I would recommend calling GSPIA today or tomorrow, rather than emailing them. They don't respond or take ages to respond to email, but finally, yesterday, there was someone who was actually helpful on the phone (i.e. said more than just 'call back in 2 weeks, we're behind'). She took the student number and said she'd check, and several of the documents (although still not all) are now updated on the online file. About time - they arrived December 16! I think they're finally getting to a point where the number of envelopes they have is not a small mountain, so they can actually give individual help over the phone (although you may still have to call numerous times before they pick up).
