There should be a what school gives out the harshest and most impersonal rejections competition. I got one from the University of Florida and it didn't even have a greeting. The body of the email is literally the same letter they attach and it starts with "I regret to inform you that your name was not among those selected for admission to our department for the Fall 2019 semester". When I read that I was like:

Just wanted to share this thread with y'all. I think we could all benefit from it. I am not a huge fan of the "look at all the things you have that other people don't and you should be thankful for that" shit because it personally makes me feel worse when I am already feeling down but either way it made me smile. Hope this helps: you are all truly great and I am rooting for all of us!

Hey everyone! Let's keep our hopes up and our chins up. I know it's tough seeing the decisions starting to roll in, especially if we're in our second or third application cycle (like me!). But, I am sure there is a place for each of our smart brains. Definitely, anxiety can creep up as the results (and anticipated rejection letters) unfold on gradcafe. Doesn't mean we aren't capable researchers. Whatever school we are admitted into will be the right one!

I'm applying to MA programs in medical anthropology at Georgia State, Maryland, Colorado-Denver, Oregon State, Alaska, and the MA/MPH (epidemiology) dual-degree program at South Florida. I submitted all my application at the beginning of December, and now I'm just waiting on a few final LORs!
    Good luck everyone!

I am going to echo bio-archfan and recommend you look into Alabama and Emory. Alabama has a specific PhD track in biocultural medical anthropology. However, Alabama requires you to have a master's before entering their PhD program, just as a heads up. A good chunk of the professors at Alabama also got their PhDs at Emory and Case Western, so you've got good contacts to those programs if you decided to attend here for the MA and then go elsewhere for a PhD.

Oregon State University has as small med anth applied anthropology program.   They fund MA work and there's a strong public health.  Lots of MA students either minor or dual degree.  It is worth looking into.

One program that you should definitely look at is University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa. They fund most of their students and they have an anthropologist that focuses on HIV/AIDS. Mississippi State University (my current graduate program) is also really good at funding their students and we are currently in the process of hiring a new medical anthropologist with a specialization in HIV/AIDS. The program that I am in has a STRONG focus in the biocultural approach (my advisor is a bioarchaeologist but did her PhD at Emory with George Armelagos, who was one of the founders of the biocultural approach). You might want to look at Emory also. They don't have professors who do research on HIV/AIDS, but they do have 3 medical anthropologists on staff. They're also really good at placing students to work/intern at the CDC (my advisor did an internship at the CDC during her PhD).
If you have any questions about my program or about any of the others then feel free to message me. I'll be happy to help!

@spoitier Hey! I don't have a MPH and I am waiting to hear back from PhD programs. But I am finishing my MA at GSU in Anth and I also work for the CDC/Emory. If you want, you can pm me and we can chat more
