You guys, I just got off the phone with admissions office. The person I spoke with said to be on the look out for an email from HGSE that will direct me to the portal with a decision. She didn't say when, but she just said in March. haha.
-
Thank you so much Lisha. I feel better knowing that yours show the same as well. So I guess Friday after 5pm, we will know the final result of our admissions status then. Good luck everyone!

You guys, I checked the online portal and it shows a receipt of a final copy of the application. Does it show anything else besides that on your online portal when you log on? Like just that the check boxes and application fee paid and a final copy of application right? Is that the same place we log on to find out our status on Friday?

I heard or read that the most competitive Med programs are Education Policy, Higher Education, International Education Policy, and Technology Innovation Education.

Thanks. I didn't even know the exact dates that the results come on that. Thanks for sharing. So anytime between March 3rd to March 10th, we should hear back from HGSE.

Two and half more weeks. Master's applicants, are you guys nervous? I just submitted my financial aid application on Feb 10th, right on the deadline. hehe. I'm so busy that I'm just pushing it all aside. I can say that I am not nervous or anxious. I'm very chilled about this whole thing. I think about it from time to time, but it doesn't consume me because I have a pretty busy schedule, so I'm preoccupied with so many other things. Good luck to everyone!

Hi there, No, if the program doesn't require you to take the GRE or submit the GRE scores that means that they don't care or want your GRE scores. If it's not required, you do not have to submit it. Some programs do not require GRE because they do not rely on test scores to determined if you are a good fit for the program. They look at everything, your grades, essay, resume and your letter of recommendations. It varies from program to program in terms of competitiveness, but you have a very good chance because you have a good profile. Your GPA is good too. So don't worry. Try to relax and breathe. Again, they look at everything. So if you have a strong statement of purpose and strong letters of recommendation, it can override everything.

I'm very happy overall. I'm very actively involved in school and even work part time on campus. I can't think of any negatives at all. I know that I made the right choice coming here and TC exceeded my expectations. It's such an amazing place with so many opportunities. It's a very friendly and warm environment and the faculty and staff are so kind and supportive. The students here are wonderful. I've made so many great friends here as well.

The city with the best transportation is NYC! I came from Cali and I love the transportation here. The subway takes u everywhere and it runs 24/7.

Not just UCSD, but California in general. It's hard to get aroun without a car, especially San Diego because everything is so spread out.

Oh, I didn't know you were applying for a PhD program. I think that explains the confusion. The financial aid application sent from HGSE is for Master applicants. I think it's different from PHD applicants. Also, PHD applicants have to go through GSAS instead of HGSE, so the way they process their financial aid application is different as well. They probably have different funding procedure and go by info on the Fafsa. I think for M.Ed applicants, we also have different application deadlines and requirements as well. So that explains the mix up.

New York City is costly. Be prepared to pay a lot to live in shoe box. lol. Jk. I got lucky and found off campus housing a few blocks from school. I pay 1k for rent a month for a furnished single room that comes with everything and conveniently located near everything and I live 4 blocks from campus so I just walk to school. You can find some good places but the cost of living is expensive, everything is expensive in New York. Funding depends and vary by program. There are some scholarships that range from 5k to 15k. Financial aid is in the form of loans and work study for most students unless you have outside sources or external scholarship. So there are scholarships available, but it's not much. I'm biased, but I love New York City and I love Columbia so much. I met so many amazing people and made so many good friends and got such an amazing experience here!!! It's so worth it, especially because New York City is my dream city. For me, it was a dream come true. I love New York!!! I made the best choice to come here all the way from California. The winter is bearable and I love snow. I'm a Cali girl and I survived all four seasons. Fashion, food, entertainment, etc. New York has everything!! It's so fun here. There's always a million things to see and do and there are always fun things going on at school too.

Wait, you called admissions and not financial aid office? I think you should try calling financial aid office because admissions probably got confused and thought you were asking about financial aid awards. Those don't go out until mid March after a student is accepted. But anyone who has a completed application would be sent an email from financial aid office with a student login and activation code to fill out the hgse financial aid application. Admissions only takes care of the application, but the financial aid office is responsible for sending out the application and codes via email. It's two separate office, but they work together. So I'm not sure why this is happening to you. Sorry about that.

There are no interviews for MA programs. I didn't have to do an interview. Maybe some programs require them? But I know majority don't. I am completing a Master's in Health Ed.

That's very odd. Hgse is usually on top of their game. I strongly urge you to call financial aid and ask them because the emails should have been sent out especially you would be the first to get it since your application was completed in November. For me, I submitted a completed application on Jan 5th. The deadline is approaching too. I always call admissions and they're so helpful with answering all my question. Just call them and find out what happened.
