  1. Semi-finalist for an ETA in Kenya!
  2. Between refreshing this page and my email I'm going nuts. I keep hoping when I see new posts on here it means maybe more people heard something, but also it's honestly just nice to feel collectively nuts as we all anxiously wait.
  3. Hi folks!! I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll hear this week, here's hoping! I'm applying for the Kenya ETA, and am currently a boren scholar studying Swahili in Tanzania for the academic year. I majored in biology and environmental science and I'm a little nervous because I don't have much teaching experience beyond TAing a class and an environmental education work/study I had for three years in undergrad. Fingers crossed though, good luck to you all!
  4. I'm curious to why they would send an unofficial e-mail?
  5. Do you think they stagger the e-mails by region and such?
  6. WOAH CONGRATULATIONS!! I hope you have a wonderful time! I just looked over your first post in this thread, you deserve it!
  7. Does Tuesday count as mid-week? Or Thursday? I'm just getting nit-picky now.
  8. Yeah I applied for AFLI and got two budget update e-mail things. One that kinda confused me because it said "This is a budget update excluding AFLI and SAFLI" and it came out a week or so after everyone else. Then I received another e-mail a week and a half ago asking about additional costs for the AFLI program that said it was specific to ALFI. Oh well, just have to wait I guess!
  9. Whew I read the May thing and freaked out a little bit. Does everyone get notified at the same time? Fellowship, scholarship, AFLI, SAFLI?
  10. Did anyone apply for the Boren Scholarship for the AFLI program for Swahili in Tanzania?
  11. Hello everyone! I'm applying for the Boren Scholarship AFLI program to study Swahili in Tanzania. I'm in undergrad majoring in Biology/Environmental Science with French/Spanish minors. I've never studied Swahili before, so I'm a bit nervous since most people have studied their target language before even though I know there is no language requirement for Swahili. Does anyone have any tips for the essays for AFLI? Or does anyone have any tips for writing the essays in regards to environmental degradation/climate change? I'm hoping to study Swahili so I can go to graduate school for limnology to study Great Lakes biology (both in the U.S and in Africa), with hopes of working in the government in the East African region to combat degradation of the lakes and streams in the area by working with local communities. Thanks!
