  1. @LizAB, @Blizzard and anyone else interested, the Children's hospital of Michigan will be hiring 4 assistants in the division of genetics and metabolics! It's located in Detroit, so not tooooo far from Ohio or Chicago if you don't mind moving. You would work very closely with the Wayne State genetic counseling program and their students. Myself and the other current GCA both matched with programs this year! Feel free to PM me if interested.
  2. Wayne State here as well! Can't wait!
  3. My advice would be to DEFINITELY take the GC intern position if you think you'll be okay living with your parents temporarily (I moved back home for this past year, and I understand how rough it can be). I say this because I was high on a program's waitlist last year and when I asked for feedback the director told me that the ONE thing that would have bumped me up would have been consistent exposure to genetic counseling. I had shadowed in 3 different specialties for multiple appointments and that wasn't enough to get a good grasp of the profession. The programs are getting more and more competitive each cycle so if acceptance is your end goal you need that exposure.
  4. IU sent out invites on Jan. 24th. I reached out a few business days later to see if they thought they'd be sending out more invites and never got a response. Also feeling pessimistic about that one haha
  5. Nice, I'll see you there! I interviewed at Wayne last year as well if you have any questions or anything!
  6. Me! Still hoping to hear, but I knew it was a risk applying there because I didn't have 2 semesters of introductory Biology in undergrad. My major only required one. We'll see what happens!
  7. I applied to Bay Path this year. I chose to apply there because of the flexibility that an online program would give. However, my living situation has changed since submitting my app and admittedly Bay Path has fallen to the bottom of my preference list. I am still applying because with no application fee and the option of a Skype interview, there's nothing to lose!
  8. It's still early! Just got an email back from the director saying all 7 of their offers are still outstanding and some of those people are waiting to see if they got offers closer to home. So there's a chance.
  9. Does anyone have any idea of where Indiana University is at? I got a call saying I was "high on the waitlist with a good chance of being accepted" but was never contacted saying they filled up or otherwise. Anyone hear any more info since yesterday? Or anyone thinking of turning down a spot there?
  10. I'm Sundays from 8a - 12p EST! So if your Sunday shift is afternoon we're probably on at the same time. That's wild. They all asked me how it worked, lol. & then a couple of people asked what I thought the drawbacks and benefits of that type of counseling are.
  11. No way! When is your shift?? Be prepared to talk about it A LOT! I was blown away by how interested they were in that.
  12. Had my first interview yesterday so I figured I'd post some of the questions I was asked: (some are repeats that have been mentioned before, but they really do ask these questions!) Tell me about yourself/Tell me about your advocacy (5/6 of my interviewers asked about my advocacy with Crisis Text Line) What do you think is the biggest challenge genetic counselors face? What do you think you will struggle with the most in graduate school? Other than location, why did you pick this school? What is something we can't tell about you on paper that you want us to take away from this interview? & my personal favorite: If you had an entire month with no responsibilities and unlimited resources how would you spend it? Good luck at interviews everyone! I have my second one on Monday!
  13. I'm actually in the morning too! lol.
  14. awesome! Morning or afternoon???
  15. Wayne State and Indiana! Thanks for the advice I have tooonss of questions so that's perfect
