  1. I submitted my app before Christmas and it was verified around December 30.
  2. Interviewed scheduled for KGI !
  3. Ahhh I'm so nervous! I really hope Arizona sends out invites today. I feel like I've been on the edge of my seat just waiting for days. lol Hope everyone is having a great day today!!
  4. hey everyone! Has anyone heard anything new about Arizona's GC program? Will their application open this fall?
  5. Hey everyone! Hope you all are having a fantastic day! Has anyone received feedback from Utah?
  6. I am sending my emails today!! I have a question for you. From the schools you have heard back from, did they just email you their feedback from your previous applications or do you set up a time to call them?
  7. Hello! I am also a second round applicant. I only received one interview, and I think its because of the dang GRE! UGH! If you want tips on how to prep better, feel free to send me a message and I can talk about the resources that I was given. I feel like I am improving, which is good I guess, but we will see! I personally think that your work experience as a lab assistant and working at a teratology center is excellent! Have you been able to shadow a genetic counselor a couple of times or interview with one? I have joined CTL too! I like how flexible it is. I think it may be a good idea to have more advocacy/volunteer experience. If you go onto volunteermatch.org, you can find both virtual and local volunteer positions available for the healthcare, nonprofit, and advocacy sector. The site is extremely helpful! As for grades, I am not sure about this one. Honestly, I don't think its worth going in debt to take more classes. From my experience, researching graduate classes have been difficult since they all are so expensive. I took an extended education class at UCSD once and it was $500, so I understand your concern. I think the UC embryology class sounds exciting! I really don't believe that taking a class at a JC would be held against you. I think it shows that you have made the effort to raise your GPA, which is great! Every program is different, so I would ask if you are concerned. As for LORs, I believe they will have to be resubmitted. I would check with each program, since they may have a different process for second applicants!
  8. I'm just so confused also with how it is going to work... What if my rankings don't match theirs? Will it be a waste of money and time again? How is it going to be fair and beneficial to all... ugh already feeling the anxiety.
  9. There is an "Intro to Biochem" online class offered through UCSD's Education Extension Department. It is 3 units! It was a good class and super convenient since I couldn't take biochemistry at my college. I can give you the info and course syllabus if you are interested!
  10. Hi all! I have a question! What types of jobs do you all have? I am looking for an advocacy/healthcare/nonprofit/clinical research type of job and I would love to hear what you all are up to, so I can get ideas! Thanks
  11. Thank you so so so much! You are so Kind
  12. This is so exciting to hear!! Do you know when they are going to be releasing information about the program on the website?
  13. I am wondering the same thing!! From what I have heard, they are going to implement drug development/response topics into their curriculum, but still have regular clinical rotations in peds, prenatal, and cancer! I found an article where they talk about their goals for the program. I will try to find it and send it to you! I think pharmacogenetics is super interesting. I haven't heard of genetic counselors who have practiced in this specific field, but who knows. I am sure they are out there!
  14. I think your experience is great! Program directors really are interested in applicants having advocacy experience, so if you can get more, I think that would be good as well. My advice to you is to reach out to various GCs for an in person or phone interview. I was able to interview with about 5 GCS, and that led me to my shadowing experience. Even though it may just an interview, it was so helpful and gave me insight into the career and their experiences with the field. For the GRE, I recommend Magoosh resources and their GRE app!
  15. Great!! Thank you for sharing. Omg 5 people? AHHH. Okay well I have heard about KGI! I actually live 5 minutes away from the campus. I grew up in Claremont, so if anyone has any questions about the area or school let me know!! I will be meeting with an admissions committee member next week to see if there is any information about the program available to the public yet. They are expected to enroll students in the 2018-2019 year. So, I believe they will be starting applications soon.
