  1. When I applied back in the day, practitioner-oriented (MA/MS) program typically required a minimum of 1000 (old score). I think there really isn't a heavy emphasis on GRE scores. If you have low scores, try to supplement in your SOP and recommendations.
  2. I'm currently a BCBA and in a PhD program for behavior analysis. First off, what do you want to do for a career? What would the school adjustment counselor role entail? What are you planning to do with your BCBA?
  3. I went to FIT for a related degree (ABA), and yes, the private tuition was brutal. Since it was Masters level, I took out loans to cover for it, and there was barely any assistantships available. I happened to get one out of three offered (but this would vary across departments I'm sure). I believe their doc students have tuition waiver, but not sure on funding. Alternatively you may want to look into the OBM (Organizational Behavior Management) MS program, which is very competitive for OBM doc programs.
  4. I've had funding stated in my initial offers, and then I also had offers with no funding stated but was told that all doctorate students were funded but the amount and duties would depend according to the adviser.
  5. I think it largely depends on your cohort size and program. In my Masters program, we were all fairly close and would do a ton of things together. However, in my current program, it's not quite like that, even within lab members. My adviser doesn't do a lot of get-togethers or even lab meetings, so we don't see each other outside of school really.
  6. Favs: Game of Thrones, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (netflix), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (netflix), House of Cards (netflix). I also highly recommend The Misfits on Hulu. It's a british sci-fi/comedy/drama. So underrated, but a great mix of quippy dialogue, occasional drama/romance, and a dash of violence.
  7. I think it depends on what you want to do, and how strong your other letters of recs are. If the BCBA will write a much stronger letter than your past profs/PIs, then I'd recommend doing that. However, if your past prof/PIs were in the clinical/school psych department, then that may be better to your advantage.
  8. Same here!! I'll be attending WMU. Who will you be working with?
  9. I too will be going to WMU in fall 2015 for a phd! I visited during interview weekend, and yes, it's definitely a small town with some charm. Coming from Orlando, I don't expect as many events or variety.. I stayed in a house in the student ghetto, and it wasn't too bad. It was definitely an old building, but the people around the area didn't seem too bad. Can anyone suggest apartment recommendations? I'll look into the ones posted above but wanted some recent ones too.
  10. I was contacted by my POI for an interview two weeks ago
  11. I'm a bit late to the thread too! Hoping to pursue my phd in behavior analysis. @greyhound111 -- did you end up applying?
  12. What dismayed you about the field of behavior analysis? It's certainly growing and thriving now and not limited to autism or developmental disabilities treatment
  13. Sooo, I am currently dating my advisor/mentor who chaired my thesis and whose lab I worked in, and I don't think it's a good idea to ask him to submit a LOR for me to a PhD program (different school). The program I'm most interested is more advisor-based on acceptance (rather than departmental decision). I'm fairly close to my POI but am not sure how to bring this up. Should I just not mention it all together? Mention it in a e-mail or SOP? The purpose of me mentioning it is to say I've chosen not to ask him for a LOR due to our dual relationship; however, please feel free to contact him if you would like more information about my work/time in the lab that I did not address here. Thoughts?
  14. Hi all, I'm about to start working at a school with EBD kids with very severe histories, and I was wondering for those of you who had experience in this field, what was your choice of wear? I'm looking for sturdy, professional looking tops when not working with the students, and will hold well after multiple washes (going to get sweaty and spat on! but thought perhaps just cheap Hanes T-shirts would work? I considered scrubs but might look out of place since I don't think the other teachers will be wearing that. I can wear jeans too. Throw some ideas at me! xposted this to education
