  1. You stated what you think you are weak at, so make sure you strengthen those areas. For me it was my undergraduate degree in the humanities when I wanted to get into science, so I got a second one in the sciences. The same field I wanted to get my PhD. Good luck!
  2. I got my department letter and waited for almost 3 weeks to get the official acceptance from the graduate school. Call the department or email the coordinator and see what's up.
  3. I actually never got to emailing her. I had 2 exams today and it slipped my mind. But if that what your friend says I would go with that.
  4. Honestly, I am not sure, but must likely you are waived. You can ask Kathy tomorrow. I'll send her an email about it as well. I accepted my offer today! How about you, have you accepted?
  5. That sucks @Peanut, I am sorry!
  6. Who are potential PIs and where would you prefer to live?
  7. What is the level of scholarship for each school?
  8. My timeline is similar-ish... 2009-applied to 6 medical schools. Rejected by all schools. 2010 retook MCAT. 2011-applied to 6 lower ranking medical school. Rejected from all 6. 2012-2014-worked as clinical research assistant and contemplated what to do with my life... 2014-went back to undergrad for chemical engineering. 2016-took GRE, did ok. Applied to 7 graduate school in Chemical Engineering. 2017- accepted to 2 PhD programs fully funded, and one MS. Waitlised for one school.
  9. 110K in loans is INSANE, 75K is also insane.... my 2 cents. NC has a hub of good schools and they are known at least in the US for being good.
  10. Most of all, don't think less of yourself. Keep following your dreams!
  11. I applied twice to medical school, 2 years apart after taking the MCAT twice. I didn't get in twice. I went back to undergraduate and completed a second degree and now got into a decent PhD program, full stipend. If you really want it, make it happen! Don't give up. It is hard not to lose hope but if you really want it, find a way.
  12. To all you who are depressed and wanting to give up, I was rejected TWICE from medical school and now after applying to PhD programs in Chemical Engineering I was accepted on March 27th! Don't give up. Failures are the road to success!
  13. What are cheap yet nice neighborhoods that are one bus or metro away from UMD? Is there any neighborhood that is similar to Columbia but closer to UMD?
  14. @pureint16, When you received your acceptance letter, was it "recommended for admission"? How long did it take before the "official" acceptance went out and was reflected in you online application?
  15. @pureint16 did you make your decision? How was the weekend at UMD? And Thank you
