  1. @Legacy I would assume its because of networking aspects as you say, but I agree there is nothing stopping you from applying for jobs in Toronto after studying at McGill!! I'm also going to be moving to Toronto in August. I want to find a place where I can stay the full 2 years (not down to move more than once hahah). So I'm looking for something in the downtown area, 20 mins max away from school. Where are you moving from??
  2. @gabiaconetti No problem! I volunteered at the McCord museum last summer! I definitely get that... I sent out emails to like every museum in Montreal possible until finally a small privately owned museum emailed me back and I did some really good work with them. Sounds like you still have some good experience under your belt. Archaeology I believe is definitely relevant. I basically only took archaeology classes at McGill and focused on that in my letter of intent. Carol is also the one who responded to me. At least she didn't give you bad news! On the bright side, I think the latest you'll hear back from UofT is late April I think? I'm sure they'll be sending out more answers these next few weeks!
  3. @gabiaconetti dont worry!! They definitely havent gone over all the applicantions yet (especially considering the final deadline is a month away!!). Did you email the department?? They answer pretty quickly and will at least tell you if you have been reviewed yet or not! At least thats what they did for me... What concentrations did you apply to? I know some are way more popular than others (based on the info day I went to) so those might be taking longer to sort through. Honestly, my CGPA is pretty low. Only a 3.2 (I addressed this in my letter of intent though). My last two years are about a 3.65 so I really put emphasis on that. Because I knew my CGPA was so low I loaded up my cv last year. Volunteered at museums, volunteered with online transcription work, and did field school this summer working with old documents. Dont give up! I think its still early in the review process...
  4. @Legacy23 As someone who was born and raised in Montreal, I can confirm it will be much more difficult finding a job if you do not speak French (though not entirely impossible). Probably depends on the company though and how much you are dealing with public or other Montreal companies. @Spzr hey! I'll also be attending the meet and greet (: are you currently living in toronto? Any recommendations on decent living areas? I've started my apartment hunting. Did anyone else apply to archives and records management or culture and technology? Those are the two streams I'm following!!
  5. @nsini Basically its like an info session about registration and financial stuff with a meet and greet with other students (new and already attending) at the end. Nothing fancy! You can probably email the admissions office and get the info.
  6. Hey!! @nsini My offer just says that I have to complete my degree with a mid b average (so like dont fail a class basically) as a condition. The same as every standard offer of admission I've seen!! They also said I would be getting the information in the email, but I didn't get that yet. They attached all the documents I need though (for a deposit and confirmation), I think maybe because I'm from out of province. Did you get an email about the meet and greet? I'm going to try and go! Let me know if you are maybe we could meet up during the refreshment portion or something!
  7. I have no idea how to directly reply so I'll answer here... @gabiaconetti I'm coming from McGill! Whats your undergrad in?? UofT is the only school I've applied to... pretty much the only place I want to go. What's your preference of the two??
  8. Hey! I also applied from Montreal! Which university are you coming from?? I applied just a few days before the early deadline and havent heard back. I contacted the department yesterday afternoon and based on my understanding the March 3rd deadline was an approximation. They have not yet reviewed all the applicants. The woman I spoke with was really nice and said she would make a note next to my application saying I needed a response as soon as possible... You guys should definitely send the admissions office an email if you're concerned with time. My assumption is most of us will hear within the next couple of weeks.
