University of Washington Seattle MSW
TheAnxiousGuy replied to TooExcited&Nervous's topic in Social Workers Forum
Hey everyone, I received an admissions offer for the extended program this past Friday! I submitted my application on the Jan 3rd deadline for anyone wondering. Ecstatic to get accepted but also panicking because it would be such a drastic change for me to go to Seattle (I'm currently in southern California). Moving, apartment, job, etc. Headache. Turns out applying was the easy part! -
I got an admission offer yesterday afternoon!!! Have you heard back yet? Strangely enough haven't heard back from CSUF after my interview this past week.
-
I had my interview with CSUF today. Seemed to have gone well, but they said expect a couple weeks to hear back. Does anybody have an update on UW-Seattle? Not a word from them and it's mid month already. Getting anxious as they're the only two schools I applied to.
-
Awesome, thank you for the information! I'm getting increasingly nervous as I only applied to CSUF and UW-Seattle. Not a lot of room for error there, so I need to really knock the interview out of the park. How do you feel your interview went?

I was also sent an invitation to interview at CSUF Friday afternoon. Does anybody here know about the questions asked or who will be conducting the interviews? Also, has anybody heard from UW-Seattle? I applied for the extended program on the Jan 3rd deadline but no update since then. Getting nervous as I only applied to UW-Seattle and CSUF. They are really the only two schools I wanted to attend, so I am hoping I presented myself well in my statements and in the upcoming interview.
-
Ah, hopefully this is the same person to interview me then. I am currently looking into specifics of the program to ensure I have a solid grasp of it should I be asked for detailed explanations of my interest in the university. Let me know if you see any other names mentioned!

I did not realize it would be something noteworthy and likely would not have discussed it in my statement if that adviser had not insisted I do so a few years back. I am fairly confident they will end up asking about it, at the very least to see if I am prepared for graduate level work. My interview is scheduled for the week of the 12th. I would have chosen one this coming week but I am currently helping a coworker get to and from work as they do not currently have a car; I set my interview for the first day they can drive themselves again. This also gives me the benefit of having time to prepare for the interview and getting a suit to dress appropriately for it.

I graduated from CSUF with a major in psychology and a minor in human services. My last 60 was a 3.61 while my overall was a 3.19. I wrote in my statement how I actually was on academic probation in community college (I had something like a 1.5GPA at the time) but managed to straighten myself out and exhaust all resources and time management skills to get through school while continuing to work to support myself and help support my family. I graduated a couple years ago, but an adviser who saw the huge GPA jump during my grad check asked me about it and told me to definitely include that in my personal statement in the future.

I received an email from CSUF yesterday afternoon inviting me to interview for the MSW program. Apparently it is with two people, but they did not give names. Was told interviews last about 30 minutes total (makes sense; the time slots you can pick from are in 30 minute intervals). Nervous but excited. What are your stats?

I applied on the deadline for the extended program. I did my undergrad there, not that it means anything. Haven't heard a single update from them yet. Last 60 GPA: 3.61 Major: Psychology Minor: Human Services Experience: semester internship college prep at a high school selecting candidates, conducting interviews, and leading group discussions. Recently I've been in the field of ABA for 2.5 years. I started as direct with kids/adults and then took on parent consultation. My last 8 months here have been starting and running quality assurance for our whole branch/county.

Wow, super impressive. No doubt you'll get in with even a half way decent statement attached that all that. The program is ranked well and I read that the School of Social Work and College of Education jointly founded the 3DL Partnership which sounds incredible. My main focus is on preventative measures and healthy development of youth. I wrote about it for the social issue analysis and found a writing authored by a few professors at UW, among several others, that was on the exact topic and very detailed. Between the reputation and work of the faculty are doing it just felt like a perfect fit. There's also that the campus itself and the surrounding area are beautiful and I was looking into moving there either for school or after school regardless.

Hey, congrats! Sounds like your hard work just had the most gratifying pay off! Best of luck to you

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. With some schools/programs sending out notices already I was hoping to hear a little sooner, especially since their deadline was 2 weeks sooner than most schools I was looking at. I only applied to UW and CSUF (I'm a SoCal resident). Extended programs for both so that I can work while taking courses and doing practicum 2nd year. Figured it was the most responsible means of attending, assuming I get in to either. My stats are on a comment I made elsewhere in this thread, but I'm sure you could find them by looking at my profile. Did you want to share yours?

Did you apply to the advanced standing, day, or extended program? I applied right on the Jan 3rd deadline due to wait for letters and a series of personal matters that had to be settled.
