I have been told by a very trusted professor that I need to be aware of how brutal the market is. Wouldn't any sensical professor tell a student interested in attending a PhD program this? This is how you weed out those that aren't passionate.
Any possibility that we might hear from Emory, Texas, UNC, or Northwestern today? There was someone on here who supposedly interviewed at Emory last week, but all of his posts have been deleted from this thread. Weird.
I applied to Washington, too, and have yet to hear anything. My understanding (based on info from years past) is that some students aren't interviewed but still get in. It really is random.
To provide some context, I had an interview with a top 15 program last week. I think it all comes down to fit.
All of the institutions that you've applied to are really excellent. I applied to Northwestern, too. While my quant GRE score isn't exactly high, it meets the Department's minimum. I'm hoping that fit with the faculty carries me through!
I was being dramatic/sarcastic. I know how brutal the market is, etc., etc. But, I think the only top 10 thing might be a bit extreme. My goal is a top 20 program.
Thanks for the response. That is my thought, too. I guess my concern is that my application will be "thrown out" because of my quant score before the rest of it is considered. I suppose that I'll find out soon enough!
If it makes you feel any better, I have a terribly low quantitative score (though high verbal and AW scores), and I have made the short list (after interviewing) with a top 15 program.
I'm getting really anxious. It seems like decisions this year are being announced both later and slower than they were last year. I at least expected to hear from Emory by this point.
I applied to Northwestern, too. Are you expecting to be rejected?
