  1. same doubts here. don't know what do
  2. Just received an email from DGS asking about my interests about their program, while saying that can't promise when or even if will make me this offer. So sad...
  3. Glad to hear that. Thank you very much!
  4. Hello, anyone heard from Ohio State? I noticed they already sent out offers one month ago. Does that mean I am out of run this year? The website still shows my application is under review.
  5. Thank you for the information! Hope I will get in. IU seems to be my last hope...or maybe I will try next year. Wish you all the best!
  6. Same here! I received an email from POI at IU, telling me that they have a rolling admission process, and they will send offers after massive notifications. The whole thing makes me wonder if I am on the unofficial waiting list of IU.
  7. I also would like to hear some experience! My POI from Stony Brook also said that SBU has an advantage of being in the NYC consortium. As an international applicant, I am not sure if it is possible to travel from SBU to NYC to take courses, attend seminars, or make use of the archives? Does anyone have the similar experience? Thanks!
  8. Hey everyone, I received an email from my POI saying that they have "a rolling admissions process, and thus candidates just below the cut-off often are approached later than programs that have mass admission notifications". Is this kind of a waiting list? I am so nervous now.
  9. Thank you very much for your information. I just heard form DGS that they only made one offer in African history this year. It seems my POI was right saying that they want to shrink down the number of Africanists because of the "large" number in the past few years. There are three Africanists on the waitlist, tbh, the chance of getting an admission from the list is very slim. I hope this will help other applicants.
  10. Got waitlisted at Northwestern....it’s my top choice, now feel a little bit complicated....how much chance do I have to get an final offer??
  11. Hi, Quick question, should we expect more universities sending notifications on Fridays?
  12. Thank you so much! I also heard that professors will meet bu field first, then they will bring the list to the department meeting. Hope the result will come out soon.
  13. I think it is POI specific. I won't say I have a formal interview. We just chatted for about half an hour on a Sunday night, and he only asked two questions, one about my WS, the other is a language test. So don't worry about your application.
  14. Wish us good luck! Figure crossed.
  15. Hello everyone, I found someone who got an interview from Northwestern said that POI said the department will make the decision in next week But my POI told me that the committee will first meet in the mid-Feb. Could anyone explain why...and which one should I take seriously??
  16. I got two interviews like this before applying. But I am still very worried since one of them began to send offers, while I have nothing.
  17. found one result of Chicago EALC from a Chinese forum. http://bbs.gter.net/thread-2145723-1-1.html
  18. I just received an email from the professor whom I have contacted before the application. He said that “it might be useful for us to chat briefly by Skype”. Is this a kind of interview? How should I prepare for that? Will there be a language test since my mother tongue is not English, and my future research needs other languages? So nervous now...
  19. go to Europe, find an MA program there.
  20. I think it depends. Since some programs clearly indicate that you should mention your career goal, then you should. But I don't think being a TT professor is enough for that, more importantly, it is what would you do with your professorship and your contributions to the society and academia.
  21. Thanks a lot! Im interested in this topic, but not know much information about it.
