Well, after deep rumination and careful consideration, I've decided to accept my offer to NPSIA. At long last, I've emerged on the other side of the postgraduate application process!
It was a really tough choice (I'm still not 100% sure of how I feel about it), but toward the end I really found myself weighing Carleton's program against IHEID's city. Obviously, I had to go with the program that I felt was a better fit - that and the one most likely to net me a job (I hear those are nice). So, NPSIA it is.
I haven't been keeping up with this thread in the past little while, so congrats to everyone else who has since received offers. For all of you NPSIA folks, it looks like you're stuck with me for the next two years. For those of you going to GSPIA, I'm sure you're all in for a great time, too. When we're all in Ottawa next fall, we should get together for a beer. I'm sure there are plenty of fine bars halfway between our respective campuses!

@Chuupa Here is one of the main housing FB groups for Ottawa students: https://www.facebook.com/groups/524220117678841/
@Delidas I hope you wouldn't mind if a Carleton MPPA student would join in too! I always enjoy a good drink and a talk about policy of some kind!
It looks like I will be taking ECON 1000 this summer with some of you NPSIA folks. Is there some way we could make a FB group/chat to stay in touch?

@StrawberryFields67 Oh, wow, thank you ! That's really  nice. I am honestly quite stressed because I'll be in the Philippines all summer... I have no clue how to find a place to live and how to do it from another continent hahaha. Hopefully I'll manage !
@Delidas Yeah, you're right ! I'm really excited for all the conferences and events

@Delidas oh yeah ! I'm always in for some beers we should all definitively meet next fall.
Aren't GSPIA and NPSIA hosting events together ? I'm sure we'll end up seeing eachother from time to time.
I am still debating what to do for housing ...

So I heard back from IHEID this morning. Received a tuition reduction of close to 90%, and a stipend of 10,000CHF per year to live off of.
I can't tell if what I feel is excitement, or anxiety at the prospect of having to make a really tough choice.
I'm gonna have to break out the calculator and work out if it's a better deal than what NPSIA is offering me. My money would go farther in Ottawa than it would in Geneva, that's for sure.
Anyways, I'll keep you guys posted. After all, we may be future-classmates in the fall, depending on what I opt to do.
Also, congratulations to everyone who's since received official offers! And good luck deciding between NPSIA and GSPIA for those having to do so - hopefully we all come to make a choice that we can be happy with.

I worked it out with friends, and the funding actually isn't that different when calculated by semester. I really want to work for the federal government after. So I'm definitely choosing NPSIA then! Thanks for the help and advice!

@Tyxce From what I hear, Balsillie offers a great education. It's a very well-funded program. That being said, as to whether or not it beats out NPSIA (in your case) depends on your vocational goals. If you aim to work for the feds after graduating, I don't think NPSIA can be beaten; the location alone would suggest that. If you're more interested in NGO work, I don't think it matters AS much where you go to school, just that you develop tangible skills and a network. Personally, I'd go with whatever lessened my debt burden the most drastically.
    But maybe I'm just cheap

I also hope to work extra beside the TA position during school, so I am also wondering if it is possible to get a part-time job (FSWEP for example) and if it is manageable to do so.

Alumni- Can you also speak to working while in the program that is not as a TA or coop? Student loans aren't an option for me and i recieved only 27k in funding. If tuition is 20k, then ill need to work. Just wondering if you think this is manageable or maybe how you personally manoeuvred it?

Sort of a broadband reply to a lot of people, but getting extensions has been pretty easy for me.
I applied to six different programs - because I guess I have too much time on my hands - and still haven't heard back from two of them. I've sent Emails to the respective admissions offices of the three schools that have formally accepted me, detailing my situation in a straightforward way, and they've all been happy to acquiesce to an extension. Queen's extended the deadline by twenty days for me, and while it may be anecdotal, I think that if a school likes you enough to admit you, they'll do their best to accommodate you.
Just send an Email off, be frank, and you really can't go wrong.

@sandradee Congrats on the funding! 27K is nothing to turn your nose up at, after all. And my funding is basically broken down in the same way as yours, but it also includes a research assistantship. After doing some math, the pay per hour rate is actually pretty lucrative (for a student).
The more I think about it, the more NPSIA is starting to edge out IHEID as my first choice. If I qualify for the tuition waiver + stipend in Geneva, I'm going to have to make a tough decision...

Congrats those who got admitted. I am also very fortunate to get admitted to both NPSIA and GSPIA, so now I have to make a decision before the acceptance deadline for GSPIA. @LoopyLex Thank you for being available for us. I am wondering if you can tell me about access to co-op program at NPSIA. Does everyone there get access to the program or only top students get in? How does NPSIA select students for the co-op? Thank you

@sandradee I haven't been contacted save for the initial Email, no. That's very interesting, though. I'd imagine it's largely up to the individual prof as to whether or not they reach out. Some are probably just happy to take on the cheap labour at face value. Still, it's very exciting! Make sure to let us know how the meeting goes.

It seems everyone else has beat me to it, but I received an informal offer of admission via email as well! Wasn't at all expecting to hear back so soon.
Needless to say, I'm pretty damn excited.
No details as to the amount yet, but they've recommended I be admitted with funding. My hands are going to cramp in the coming weeks as I undoubtedly keep my fingers crossed in the meantime...
