  1. Just got an email from Pitt Behavioral and Community Health PhD for a 30 minute phone interview!
  2. Ugh I had technology issues during my Skype with UNC! Which schools did you suffer through it with? I'm sure it still went great!
  3. Which program are you applying to? If you review the results page there doesn't seem to be much of a formula across their department. It looks like mostly rejections for PhDs until the first week of February when a few interviews are offered. But some people got accepted before the end of January without an interview. Others in February, also without an interview. Hard to say. You can always contact the department for more information. Good luck
  4. To answer your first question, the website for each program usually says if interviews are required for acceptance. From trends in the results page it seems that interviews happen more often than not but sometimes people are accepted without them (depending on the program of course). I'm not entirely sure what your second question is- can you clarify?
  5. ah! a good old fashion admissions interview enjoy the somewhat silly general admin questions, those are always fun. Good luck!! Hopefully it means you're basically in!
  6. Hey, I'm not sure how helpful this will be but the same thing happened to me for my UNC interview. For UNC they won't tell you who they are considering for faculty match prior to acceptance, but it was obvious during my interview that I was interviewing with someone they'd consider placing me with. This wasn't someone I'd spoken to or written about in my personal statement. Try to read up on them and see if it's someone you're interested and if it's obviously a potential match. If the research interests aren't at all close then I think @ianmleavitt is right it's probably just someone from AdComm.
  7. General question for those who've interviewed- Are you following up with thank you emails or snail mail cards? I've done emails for jobs in the past but the extra consideration of sending a card might look really good. Thoughts?
  8. just got off a 15 minute skype interview with UNC Health Behavior. Figured I'd put the interview questions out there for anyone who is going to interview or is curious what is asked: 1. what are your research interests? 2. what are you interested in learning in the program? 3. what do you think you will find challenging about pursuing a PhD? 4. Is there a particular methodology you would like to learn? That's all! 15 minutes is short Good luck to all those interviewing! We'll find our place
  9. Thank you for the links and advice! I hope you hear back soon- when they emailed me the day before they didn't give me much information other than that I was being reviewed. There were interviews all day jan 16-19 so maybe they'll send out more invitations on Monday.
  10. just got an email from UNC's health behavior program for a 15 minute skype interview this week! I hope others got good news as well. I didn't expect to hear on a saturday. Anyone know what to expect in these interviews? Specific questions to expect or good ways to prepare? This will be my first one!
  11. To respond to this, there are social and behavioral programs within public health departments. Those discussions should be included here. It would be odd to find PH social and behavioral information in a psych or soc graduate degree forums as they're different departments and disciplines. It might be worth a look for those interested, but doesn't make much sense.
  12. For those who applied to the Health Behavior program at UNC- I got an email that their admissions committee is meeting tomorrow to review applications. Hopefully we get news soon!
  13. Sorry to hear that . What program did you apply to? Waiting anxiously to hear back!!
  14. For the statements of purpose that request research topics you may want to pursue, how specific are you all being? I don't want to be too vague and sound like I have no direction nor do I want to be too specific and possibly eliminate myself.... Any guidance?
  15. would you mind sharing what kind of ph programs (epi/global health/ etc) you applied to and some of your background information/ stats like GRE scores for context? Thank you!
  16. Hello all- This will be my first year applying to PH PhD programs. I was wondering if anyone knew pros/cons to applying awhile before or near the application deadlines? I know pre-med applicants apply long before the deadline and the deadline is typically considered "too late". Anyone know if that's the case here?
