  1. Hi Lucrezia, I’ve seen that you’re interested in women in the Italian Renaissance. It is not out yet, but Prof. Michael Cole is finishing a book on Sofonisba Anguissola and has offered a course this Fall for undergrads on women in the Renaissance. Thought you’d be interested to know.
  2. Hi, I’ve also struggled with this last year, finding sample SOPs (and people willing to share). I’m currently a 1st year Ph.D. student at Columbia (I was also approved to the IFA). If you want, I can send you my approved SOPs (and also the “flunked’ ones). Send me a private message if you will.
  3. No, they did not. Not sure if the final decision has been made though. I was told that I had passed some rounds, but that unfortunately, I was rejected. As I have been admitted somewhere else, not overwhelmingly sad about it (even though it’s a great program). Good luck to you!
  4. I think so; unless you’ve been waitlisted (I was and I have withdrawn myself from it due to an acceptance at another program). Maybe you could send an e-mail to your POI?
  5. No, I had been talking to my POI for some time now and just sent an e-mail inquiring, asking for feedback, etc. He was really nice explaining the reasons for my rejection and so on. Best of luck to you, I guess results will come out soon. But yeah, I agree, they really should be more forthcoming about the whole thing…
  6. Talked to POI. Said I passed the first rounds, but there was an unusual applicant poll this year and, unfortunately, I was rejected. Kind of relieved to know of this.
  7. Interesting! Perhaps you’re right; I just thought that they had already sent their acceptances and no-one had until now posted anything… Well, fingers to remain crossed then.
  8. Has anyone heard anything from the Committee? Contacted the POI? Judging from past years, acceptances must have been sent already.
  9. NYU IFA, UPenn, Columbia, Committee on Social Thought (University of Chicago). Renaissance all, except the Committee, where I proposed a more historiographical-theoretical research. I was rejected from the Dpt. of Art History, so there’s still some lingering hope regarding the Committee on Social Thought…
  10. Yeah, it looks like a massacre of hope(fuls). Where are you applying to?
  11. Judging from the results page, I guess it’s all over for the UChicago’s hopefuls… I read my rejection letter on the website.
  12. Person of Interest. It means your potential supervisor in the program.
  13. No, but two people were already admitted (judging from the results page); phone calls in both cases. From what I heard, it’s a small cohort (circa seven students), so I’m not feeling very confident that I’ll get in (don’t want to dishearten you though).
  14. Hi guys, I'm from Brazil and I'll be applying for some American Ph.D. programs. Applying to: NYU IFA, Columbia, UPenn, University of Chicago (Art Hist. Dept. and the Committee on Social Thought). Current: Bachelor of Fine Arts (Universidade Estadual de Campinas); M.A. in Art History (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) Area: Renaissance, Historiography of Art History, Aesthetics Interests: My MA dissertation was on Edgar Wind, so I'm particularly interested in correlated subjects (Platonic art theory, High Renaissance art and philosophy, Warburgian tradition etc.) Experience: 2 articles, 2 book translations, conferences, internships, curatorships, abroad research (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa)… GRE: V 168 / Q 154 / AW (don’t know yet) TOEFL: 116 GPA: around 3.5 (after conversion) LoRs: 1 from my MA supervisor, 1 from my Italian MA co-supervisor, 1 from an art history professor I had as an undergrad. SoPs: Working on it. Age: 30 Languages: Portuguese (first language), English, Spanish, Italian, French, and German. Basic knowledge of Latin. Concerns: As a foreigner? Well, many. But I try not to think about them too much.
