  1. I don't know how much help this is going to be, but I have read her articles and conversed with people who know her closely. She is really competent and prolific in philosophy of language (especially, on the formal semantics and pragmatics side) and, if you are interested in the topics of propositional content, the interaction of the content of an utterance and its context and such, then I suggest you enroll in the course, since she seems to be one of the most competent young scholars in the field. From her writings, I can only presume she demands rigor and precision from her students, which is a good thing for a philosopher or semanticist anyway.
  2. Thank you so much for the really detailed answer. I will be a graduate student at the philosophy department, hence Homewood. Charles Village looks very nice and close to Homewood. I don't mind the undergraduate scene, but I am a bit worried about the rent. I have checked and the prices fluctuate too much from property to property. I will not have a car, so I care about the transportation options, though I doubt I will leave the Homewood area too much. How much did you pay for your place back in 2015-2016?
  3. I will be attending Johns Hopkins this fall. What are the options for housing? What do you suggest?
  4. I have accepted Johns Hopkins's offer. I have no other offer. So, unfortunately, I will be causing no wait-list movement.
  5. Rejected by Princeton off the wait-list. And that is it for me. I will be attending Johns Hopkins.
  6. Still on wait-list for Princeton. I guess offer-holders will take all the time they are allowed.
  7. Absolutely go ahead with it. Even if you can ask only completely generic questions, take it. Can't hurt. Your not taking it will hurt your chances for sure.
  8. Good to know. I am sitting on one offer which I have to decide on April 16 and two wait-lists, one of which is my top choice.
  9. Is it realistic to expect action on Sunday or do you think the decisions will be deferred to Monday?
  10. I believe it would be more helpful for only waitlisted applicants such as myself if people would list all the places they have been accepted to and then their decision.
  11. This thread seems in need of some more positive statistical data. I went to a Turkish school (no ranking whatsoever) for a non-philosophy, low-GPA undergrad and I am wait-listed at one top-5, one top-20 and one top-40 program. Not the most successful story, but given my background, I should have had no chance. Don't prejudge yourself with pedigree stuff. Be genuinely interested in a subject and do your best to produce a novel writing sample. You may be amazed how it works out for you.
  12. I remember someone removing herself from MIT's waitlist. So, that's at least partially good news for you.
  13. One of those things should not be like the others, though, should they?
  14. You can solicit your decision for Notre Dame. Someone did yesterday and found out, I think.
  15. Congratulations! Is this off the waitlist, because I think I saw some acceptances a few weeks back?
  16. This can really help me. Many thanks for this.
  17. It looked like a mass e-mail. Check your spambox?
  18. Notre Dame wait-lists are out, it seems. Props to Curtis Franks for being absolutely straightforward and well informative.
  19. Thank you so much. It's great to meet you, a fellow international philosophy-fighther, too! I hope that I am at somewhere at the top of the list, though I haven't heard anything. Ain't that the truth? Not only is philosophy such a language-dependent discipline, but also dwindling in job market and so on. The odds are stacked against us in the process. A few of my professors mentioned that it was much easier to get into the top programs back in their days as international applicants, since most of the process was to find an eager letter writer. So though sad, it is not incomprehensible that it's getting tougher and tougher for internationals to make it to the top programs in North America. Congratulations to you, too--you seem to have made it to beautiful programs as well.
  20. I guess that's it, folks! Congratulations to everyone who got in.
  21. To those accepted to Notre Dame, was there any clue as to whether or not they are done with sending acceptances?
  22. Congratulations! By the look of things, you might double up tonight with the incoming Notre Dame announcements.
