Completely agree @Sunset95 Columbia has so much opportunity to offer that other schools lack. I also see this as a weeding out process so to speak.... those who are die hard columbia applicants vs. those who are content with other programs (will be good for those who are waitlisted!) It's the national HUB of social work, in the greatest city in the world. You can't beat that in my opinion, can't imagine choosing another school over CSSW. We will all come out as MSW's and at the end of the day, we will all be successful regardless of what school we attend. It just has been a personal goal of mine to obtain my MSW from Columbia forever, so I'm definitely biased lol The fact that we are even on this forum discussing these schools....we should all be VERY proud of ourselves. A lot of hard work to get here!! ALSO! You can coordinate your own internship to ensure you are placed at an agency where you are most interested.

thank you for the clarification!

What is the advanced clinical for 2 year? I thought advanced standing meant 1 year program. I applied 11/30 for advanced standing 1 year clinical. Still haven’t heard.... making me go crazy!!!
-
@moonwalker is 2 year program, correct? I’m waiting to hear back from 1 year residential/traditional program. Clinical. What about everyone else? 2year/1year? Online/residential? Program?
-
Yes those were the specifications she was referring to. She said acceptances and declines have been sent out but couldn’t say for what specific programs they are working on.
-
I called this past Friday! And I know I wish I could call her every day lol I keep telling myself “today will be the day” and each day that passes is TORTURE!!! I feel like advanced standing, traditional, priority applicants will be hearing this week. GOD I HOPE SO
-
I called and the representative was very helpful, I asked a lot of questions... she said that all responses are going out in order of program and submission date. She said if people have been hearing back and you submitted before them, they did not apply for same program as you. Online and 2 year programs have heard back the most. Advanced standing has most batches to work through. She said all decisions have been sent out by date and program order and has nothing to do with strength of application. She said 2-3 more weeks for everyone to hear back from all programs.

Hopefully today will be the day!
-
@moonwalker and congratulations!!!! Do you plan on attending?
-
@MoonWalker when did you apply? For what program?
-
Congrats on the acceptance! What program did you apply for? 2 year/advanced standing/ online? What concentration? Thanks!
-
I thought the first round of offers was only for 2 year masters applicants? I don’t think anyone applying for advance standing 1 year masters has heard back yet. Is that what she was referring to? This is confusing lol
-
yea wow i didn't even think of that!! very nerve wracking!!! Will post as soon as i get a response!
-
Thank you for the clarification. Good luck to everyone!
-
you received an acceptance email on 1/26?
-

-
Thank you, yes thats a good point... i double checked and i did receive an email about the Honjo scholarship... but not he Kline. I applied for advanced standing 1 year msw, clinical practice/contemporary issues as my focus. what about you?
-
I never even received that email!! I applied 11/30 and also never received the email about scholarship opportunities. Hope something isn’t wrong...This is a huge test of patience that’s for sure!

I applied mid to late November for advanced standing 1year MSW in clinical sw practice with concentration in contemporary issues. 27 years old, 4.0 gpa in BSW program at Long Island University, sw club president, 4 internship placements, NASW student of the year award winner... .....haven’t heard anything. Getting very nervous!! This is killing me!! I also haven’t received the email about scholarships :/ Maybe Monday!!
-
Columbia Advanced Standing MSW early decision applicant! Can't take the suspense much longer!! Good luck to you all!
-
Hi! If you had a strong personal statement that illustrated your skills and knowledge of the profession, I'm sure they might focus less on GPA... I'm really not too sure what the requirements are for those schools are though. Best of luck!!

I am hoping to intern my graduate year at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center, I am most interested in severe mental illness, trauma, and homelessness. My goal is to become LCSW-R and practice psychotherapy on individual and group basis with veterans post-deployment facing trauma and moral injury. Later in my career would love to establish a private practice. Who knows! Maybe that will change! I also love the idea of going into policy change! One of the many reasons why I love social work....so much opportunity on so many levels! It's not too late to apply to other schools that you might be interested in Best of luck!

Thanks for the info! I cited the code of ethics and compared them to my ethics to highlight my skills etc. nothing crazy. I don’t think having or not having a work cited will make a difference. I haven’t applied to any other schools yet because I want to hear back from Columbia first. But I am feeling torn after hearing so many good things about hunter! I might have to apply to hunter....

Yes I had the same red x I called admissions and they manually changed it for me! They were very helpful. They said it was just a glitch in the system that happens often.

I just submitted my Columbia application and feeling nervous! I am graduating with my BSW this year; applied for the Advanced Standing MSW, with clinical focus. Feeling anxious about it!!! I have a decent amount of volunteer experience and currently at my 3rd internship placement which will be an advantage. 4.0 GPA. Still very nervous! Does anyone know if Columbia has a good reputation for giving aid? Also, did anyone submit their application essay(s) with cover pages and/or work cited page? I chose to do one large essay that answered all 3 questions and it was difficult get all the information within the 8 page limit! I decided not to do a title page and put work cited directly under the end of the paper. Thoughts? Congrats to everyone!
