  1. I feel the same way! There’s literally nothing else I can do to prepare: apartment is confirmed, I registered for all my classes, I’m set. I get to relax, but the coming semester looms over me like a particularly imposing exam I haven’t studied for. Currently I’m scouring the internet for “typical day in the life of a social psych PhD student” so I can get a glimpse of what to expect. Nothing is helpful! (If anyone can direct me to a thread for this please do! I might have to make my own) I think the fear of the unknown is what’s getting to me. I feel unprepared because I don’t know what I’m preparing for other than the always vague “readings and meetings” I just want to start already ??
  2. You guys are all amazing. I guess I’ll refine my research ideas and start gathering some background information for them so I can really start off strong. Thanks everyone! My email was really brief. A simple greeting followed by how you’re excited to begin in the Fall. Then you can ask “is there anything you would like me to do to prepare?” That should show that you’re ready and willing to do something but you’re not pushing.
  3. Hey everyone! I will be attending a PhD program in Fall 2018. I emailed my professor at the start of the summer asking if there was anything he would like me to read/do before the semester starts. He said his summer will be spent working on manuscripts and basically told me to chill because of how busy I’ll be once the semester starts. I, however, have no chill. I’ve been granted a dull office job this summer, so I have nothing to do but think about my research and potential topics. (I love it because it’s the type of mindless work where I get to listen to podcasts and... well... think about what’s coming for me in the Fall!) Would it be inappropriate to email my professor with these potential ideas? Should I just save them for next semester?
  4. Berkeley had their interview weekend for the psych program last weekend. They’re sending out acceptances now.
  5. Thank you! I haven't heard anything from Indiana (I applied to the Bloomington campus). I haven't seen anything regarding their social psych program on here or on the survey page.
  6. I would go with something casual and comfy but also presentable. No sweats, obviously. But something like jeans and a nice top will work. As long as you look put together your grad student probably won't care that much. I believe UMich Ann Arbor has sent out their invitations for social psych (interviews and/or acceptances). Or at least they did for personality and social contexts. Their interview/recruitment date is in February though so they might still be sending invites.
  7. @Psychapplica studentuniverse.com is a good place for cheap flights
  8. @Cognition001 I would say just because one professor doesn't want you, doesn't mean any of the others you listed won't want you as well. I think prof. 1 just meant you weren't a good fit for his lab so he personally would not recommend you for admission. The other prof. probably thinks you're a great fit for his own lab, thus the interview.
  9. School: CUNY Track: BASP Interview Type: Campus Interview Dates: Feb 7th-8th However I won't be attending since I already got into one of my top choice schools. So if anyone is waiting for a CUNY spot here you go!!
  10. Hey guys, This waiting game is killing me. Got some UC Berkeley news. Odd process where I emailed POI in November, didn't hear back from him until 12/14, had a quick video chat where he did most of the talking but seemed really interested. Sent thank you email afterward thanks and still haven't received a response. Got an interview invitation from Berkeley's social psych head on Monday night. Best luck to everyone!
