You're welcome, @ClassicsApp21! I've been putting them all in a Google Doc in order to answer them/write up the answers for each program to have them at the ready. Another person on Twitter shared their favorite questions to ask, so here's that, too! Who their favorite female character from mythology is and why? In a parallel universe, what would their job be instead of classics? Why did they want to study classics? What are their least favorite and the best part of the department?

I've heard a lot of the interviews are informal chitchat and I've been working on gathering information on interview possibilities from some places. I heard another piece of advice is to remember that you're also interviewing them so ask about things in the program you can benefit from, ask them if they're working on any research that doesn't appear on their posted CV on the department site (if they have one), etc. Asking them questions to get to know them as people and not just academics, too! Perusing the school/department website to come up with specific questions if you'd like. Someone gave these questions as an example: 1. Are there any things about you that were not in your application that you would like us to know or aspects of your application that you would especially like to stress? 2. What are your expectations of life in grad school and what do you expect to get out of it? 3. What about the program especially attracts you? 4. What scholarly book outside ancient history you have most enjoyed? 5. What questions do you have for us?

Oh no! I agree with @ClassicsApp21 though, reaching out might be worthwhile to indicate you need the funding. I heard of people negotiating their funding before.

Did they indicate funding offers to follow or just tell you that there was no funding available?

It looks like the results page has 2 folks getting interviews for Princeton (congrats to them!!!) I'm gonna try not to sweat it ?

Anxiety is definitely part of this process. I just wish mine would calm down, lol. I hope folks hear back from people soon! I'm not sure if anyone I know heard from Berkeley yet, either.

I'm waiting to hear back from everyone too; I applied to Chicago, NYU, and Yale as well. Maybe some of us will be in the same cohort! I haven't gotten any interview requests, either. Some places will admit without an interview, though, so don't fret too much.

I'm in the same boat as most of you. Not knowing when we'll hear back is the worst. I'm just trying to focus on the fact that the University of Chicago said I would know by mid-February and hoping other schools will notify me around that time. Otherwise, I'm throwing myself into work for the most part and watching way more movies and television than I usually do ? Trying to pretend grad school doesn't exist is definitely a challenge right now!

I've been dealing with this a lot myself. I'm trying to distract myself with other projects; I'm about to make a schedule for things I have to do during the day, i.e. work, but then things I want to do, like volunteer hours (I'm doing a lot of online stuff), creative writing, and trying to clear out my regular emails because I have so many. Usually, that is tedious enough for me to want to get away from my inbox, lol. I hope you find something to distract yourself! I'm trying to fully dive into hobbies and hope it helps.

@ClassicsApp21 Yeah, I asked a while ago for folks I know in PhD programs when they heard about their acceptances. Some people said they heard back really early, some people said they heard back right before the deadline to decide, and a few told me they heard AFTER the deadline to choose or not at all. So, it could be all over the place. Also, waitlisted results might not come back until right before the choice deadline, too. We'll see. Crossing my fingers for you, too, @exhaustionandtoast!

Congrats to everyone who have gotten interviews or acceptances already! And, @ClassicsApp21, I'm honestly surprised people are hearing back this soon. I'm not expecting all of mine to come in until mid-March at the earliest (I know about the University of Chicago to say my app was under review but that's the only thing I've heard so far).

Yeah, @TaciturnTales, I can completely understand that! I'm glad that the University of Chicago at least told me the decision timeframe. I personally like being informed but they really need to work on the subject lines so we don't freak out when seeing it. I got an accidental email about acceptance from a program before and that's never fun! The day after we got an apology email about the department mistakenly sending it out. Hopefully, that doesn't happen to anyone else!

So, for anyone who might be wondering, I got an email 2 hours ago from the University of Chicago that my application was under review and that they would be making decisions by mid-February. I'm really nervous, but fingers crossed!

Same, I've not had to do interviews before, so it's a bit nerve-wracking. I'm trying to remember that I would also be interviewing them, and have questions prepared beforehand.

It's definitely way earlier than I've ever heard about hearing back, to be sure. I was certain I'd be white-knuckling it until March, but it looks like I might be finding out a little sooner. For comparison, my first MA application was a rolling admissions, and I applied in early March and heard back maybe four days later. However, my second MA was mid-December and I heard back at the beginning of March, too. I think this year's admission cycle is going to be super wonky because of how everyone's schedules are pretty all over the place in comparison to previous years.

I did see a decent amount of people on Twitter / in FB groups mention they would rather hold off applying in the midst of the pandemic (which is understandable!) so I have a feeling that's a big part of it

I applied to ISAW as well. If I remember correctly, most people heard back around February last year? Like, mid-month. I haven't seen anything change on mine, yet. Buy, as @Catalystica said, the SCS/AIA taking place means no one will really be making decisions until they're done with the conference.
