  1. I'm preparing to take the GRE as an intended Classics major, so that worries me a bit. I feel like it feeling off and unethical seems like a fair assessment of this...if I got more quantitative on my GRE I would be pretty put out.
  2. Has anyone had any experience with TA'ing online? One of the programs which I'm applying to offers funding, even for online students, so there is a possibility I could be an online TA. Any advice for those of us who may come upon this? If you have no online TA experience but taught college courses, what are the different challenges of TA'ing/Teaching online versus in a classroom?
  3. Even though this is an old post, I feel like resurrecting it would be good because this is some good advice. Anyone else have any advice for current/about to attend Classics grads? This information has helped me immensely, even though there isn't much on it yet. But I would be the flashcard-making individual as well, so knowing how to approach it differently does help a lot.
  4. I'm applying to terminal MA programs, so this is encouraging to hear! Thanks for letting us know those stats, it's definitely helpful to see where people head after a terminal MA program.
  5. Best of luck to you both! I'm applying to Villanova and possibly University of Wales Trinity St. David since I'm going to do a terminal MA first. I'm still toiling over my SoP (I'm on version 10, I might have to bite the bullet and just send it in...) Ivies and the California schools are what I'll be tackling for a Ph.D. in 2-3 years once I start working on my MA program! So I'm crossing my fingers once I get everything in and will be waiting [im]patiently for the responses. I do have to brush up on my Greek, though, because we have placement tests, too to see what level the students are on (it's been a while since I had formal classes) so I'll be pretty busy while I wait for the responses.
  6. Have you tried contacting the graduate admissions to see if the data was completely lost or if you will just have the information migrated? You might want to start there and see if they have any answers for you. Their webpage may have an announcement about it, too, if it's been happening to multiple people.
  7. I agree that that's a great resource, thanks for sharing it!
  8. That sounds excellent! I have an old Barron GRE prep set somewhere, I need to see if it's too out of date (I think it's from 2015?). Thank you for all your help!
  9. Sooner the better makes sense. I know some basic things about the test structure, but my worry is being away from any kind of standardized test for too long (2006/2007 was the last time I took any standardized tests). I know for sure I'm going to be rubbish with any math that's on there, so that's my biggest worry. I do work full-time right now, so I'm not sure how a timeline for GRE prep would work because if I'm honest, I'd say the earliest I'd want to take it is the beginning of the summer, but I'm uncertain how I would balance GRE prep between my final semester this Spring (which includes an internship) and my full-time job. Do you have any suggestions regarding that? That makes sense. I'm aiming high for my PhD programs, so I'd say I'd want to be able to have at least boastful scores because I feel like that would be the minimum expected for the schools I'm applying to - places like UPenn and NYU. Which may explain why I'm so excessively nervous! Thank you for all your help and I'll be looking into some prep materials soon. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for the luck!
  10. This has been a great thread that's helped me feel a bit better about my upcoming application(s).
  11. I've found all of the above to be true; Villanova is the only place I found that has an online program. And I found a couple of distance programs abroad, mostly in the UK and Australia, when I looked. Good luck!
  12. Hi, Passer! Where did you end up applying to?
  13. Okay, thank you! I've got it on another computer, so I will send it on later this morning. I really appreciate it!
  14. Hello, all! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some feedback on my SoP for a terminal MA program in Classical Studies. It's due in February, so I have a bit of time to make corrections before I send it off. Thanks in advance!
  15. This was a great topic to sift through; I have my shopping list for the Fall after sifting through all twenty pages! Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences to help the rest of us.
  16. Here are some sites/links I found that you might want to look through and see if any of these are a fit for you: https://www.elizabethgreenshieldsfoundation.org/ http://grantspace.org/tools/knowledge-base/individual-grantseekers/artists/funding-for-visual-artists https://www.collegegrants.org/art-college-grants.html https://www.womenarts.org/funding-resources/visual-national/ http://www.blouinartinfo.com/news/story/800187/20-top-artist-grants-and-fellowships-you-might-actually-be http://graduateschool.nd.edu/assets/137735/major_opps_for_art_design_mfas.pdf https://www.arts.gov - might want to check here for any possible funding, too. For ADHD: https://www.ncld.org/scholarships-and-awards http://incight.org/education/scholarship http://www.shireadhdscholarship.com And one site advised to also "Contact a local, state or national organization that is specifically related to the student's disability; they might have their own scholarships."
  17. I have an oddly specific question. One of the program(me)s I'm considering is through the University of Wales Trinity St. David, but it would be through distance learning, so I won't be moving to Wales to complete the degree. I was looking into their program(me)s for a bit now and I like the coursework and the professors have similar research interests to me, so I thought it was a good fit. However, as we all are, I'm worried about the funding. Since I'll still be residing in America, if I chose to go to this program(me), what kind of funding would you suggest? I know they have a scholarship for distance learners, but that's only £1,000 and that'd only cover perhaps half of one class. Additionally, it's harder for me to find scholarships/funding because I'm turning 29 in September and often there is an age cut off for funding. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  18. If anyone has any questions about UDel or Newark, that's where I went for my undergrad and I was born/raised in DE, so I know a lot about the surrounding areas as well. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions!
  19. Aside from sifting through the entire government Education listings of accredited degrees to see if they have an online program, I usually use gradschools.com to find online programs - looking up International Relations brought up these results: https://www.gradschools.com/programs/international-relations and it'll tell you which ones are online. (I believe some of the German degrees may offer their program in English and if I remember correctly, Germany does not charge tuition even for International Students - there will probably be some fees but nowhere near as much as American schools). Then you can see if they offering funding/what funding they offer to their online students and how you apply for the funding when you're applying for the program. I didn't have tuition reimbursement for my place of work (even though I'm working in my field), but I applied to every scholarship I could find that I qualified for and I got one through the Mensa Foundation, which does offer some non-Member scholarships. I always applied for scholarships through my university first, then I check for grants, scholarships, Fellowships, etc through sites that list things like that, especially for graduate/adult students (I'm 28 so a lot of the scholarships I found in books / on FastWeb I don't qualify for had a cut off at age 25). Basically, try to give yourself a schedule and goal of applications like 2 easy scholarships and 1 long scholarship a day or 10 scholarship applications a week and try to keep up with it. I was at 75 applications before I got my Mensa scholarship, so you have to be really persistent and not get discouraged. I'll be starting my next round of these soon, myself. Good luck!
  20. I'm glad this worked out! My application is due in February and I asked my professors in summer and then this semester (once I had this professor for the second time in my current grad program) for Letters of Rec, but the admissions portion of the site indicates that you can submit the final application even if all the Letters of Recommendation aren't sent through yet. I know for sure one has gone through, but can't tell if the others sent yet. So it's good to hear a lot of schools are lenient on that and it wasn't just where I was applying.
  21. My program just said "general", so I ended up using one professional reference and two professors. I'm sure you'll be fine with the 1 art gallery director/2 professors as your LoR writers. Good luck!
  22. Hello, all! I'm applying to an MA program that does not require the GRE but I plan on applying to PhD programs immediately after that, so I wanted to know when I should take my GRE? Since it's been a while since I had any standardized testing, should I take it sooner rather than later in case I have to take it again? How many times should an individual take the GRE if they aren't pleased with their score? (I am terrible with standardized testing). Thanks in advance!
  23. You should check out The sub-3.0 GPAs Acceptance Thread on here - I'm sure you'll find a lot of people discussing their admissions to UK schools!
  24. This is good advice for people who have future projects that will be completed after the application due date but before their program will begin.
  25. Since I studied abroad multiple times to different countries, I had a "study abroad experience" subsection under my education, which seemed to work out fine for me.
