  1. It seems like you should be competitive for any program, but we'll let some of the more knowledgeable people make specific comments. I wanted to address what I know about international admissions for Harvard biostatistics: "due to limited funding for international students, applications are usually split into two groups: - Domestic (usually admit ~10-12 students from pool of >100) - International (usually admit ~2-3 students from pool of >100)" from this admissions powerpoint. This is corroborated by what Paige Williams said at the 2018 interview/open house.
  2. Schools in chronological order: State University | GPA: 1.68 | academically dismissed Community College | GPA: 4.0 Small Liberal Arts College | GPA: 3.96 | degree-granting institution Cumulative GPA: 3.6 Type of Student: Domestic GRE General Test: Q: 168 (94%) V: 167 (98%) W: 5.0 (93%) Research Experience: 2 REUs at top schools, non-academic but relevant internship, 2nd author publication, handful of regional/institutional talks and posters Awards/Honors/Recognitions: departmental awards, honors societies Pertinent Activities or Jobs: TA for non-math class, tutor for a handful of math classes, currently employed in semi-relevant position Letters of Recommendation: two from REU professors and two from professors at my SLAC Math/Statistics Grades: C in MV calculus, F in linear algebra, A's in 11 other undergrad-level math/stat classes including 2 semesters of real analysis Programs Applying: Biostatistics PhD Applying to: Harvard | Admitted after interview | Attending Michigan | Admitted to MS-PhD fast-track after phone interview | Declined UW | Waitlisted after Skype interview | Withdrew Hopkins | Rejected without interview
  3. Congratulations! Did you see it under 'Application Status'?
  4. That's true! If that's the only good news I get this cycle, I'll obviously still be thrilled. Hopefully it's the same with you and UNC!
  5. My Michigan Biostats PhD phone call was on 2/9 and the professor told me to expect a decision at the end of February. I'm trying to not be too impatient!
  6. I had my phone call with University of Michigan Biostatistics this week and was told that decisions would be made at the end of February. This conflicts with what I've seen in this thread, so I wanted to let everyone know what I heard!
  7. Congratulations! Did they do this in previous years? I thought Michigan didn't interview....
  8. I'm waiting on Harvard biostatistics PhD. I thought the positive results would have come out today based on last year, but there don't seem to be any decisions from the university today in any field.
  9. I just got waitlisted from one my programs - even more waiting!
  10. I don't have a good answer to that - even when presented with admissions statistics, they still insist that I'll be fine. While I appreciate their confidence in me, I wish I could sometimes get support in the anxiety rather than dismissal!
  11. One of my programs has never interviewed before this cycle so I don't even know when to expect a response one way or the other. At least the other programs have some historical data to give me some idea of when I might hear back! I was very ambitious in my application list and my friends/family don't seem to understand that there is a distinct possibility I won't get in anywhere.
  12. They did Skype interviews this year for the first time in biostatistics. There were 28 interview slots (not sure how many were filled, though), so I think they interviewed most if not all of the candidates they are seriously considering. I don't know about statistics, however, just biostats.
