    Yeah, I concur with this, I shared result info and was intentional about not posting GRE or GPA info. It seems private and I don't think it really has a ton of explanatory power to why people eventually get in. I can not tell how many results I've seen on the board where the person talked about how great their GRE and GPA was and how they "felt" like a fit. Most useful thing I've gleaned is getting a  good idea of when results go out from each school. :wacko:

I thought having been accepted into one of my top choices would render the waiting game less agonizing. As it turns out, it hasn't. :) Hope to hear from NYU, whatever the outcome, soon. Could anyone say when Brown might send out their final decisions? 

     

    Congratulations. Maybe tomorrow for more NYU applicants, it's only a matter of time. At this point for those who get in, it will probably be very subjective and based on what POIs decide to do about notifications.

    Have to say a somewhat-nerve wracking thing is being in a timezone different from the schools you've applied to. I'm currently abroad in Europe and I keep reflexively checking my EST-set clock.

    I see your point and thought to say something similar a few days ago but I held back and now hold a point of view similar to @OHSP  and  @grubyczarnykot that this is a hallmark of the applicants' thread since not everyone gets in and often do use the Applicants thread of their discipline to vent+ plan.

    There are always people who share a lot more and the conversation seems to end up orbiting around their specific processing. I want to believe that even though there might seem to be only a few people posting there are many others who lurk+watch who may actually see a lot of their thoughts mirrored in the conversations happening. In their anonymity, they might take lessons and guidance from the dialogue. I think that's useful.

    Correct me if I am wrong but isn't very early February (first few days) the time when Harvard sends out its notifications?

    For those who like looking at graphs. Wanted to cross-post something from the "Waiting It Out" forum for those who tend to only frequent the History threads.   
    @there_is_a_wait_so_long  created graphs using gradcafe data which include :

    • Decision timeline as a cumulative sum of decisions (accept, reject, interview, waitlist) as a function of time between Jan 1 and May 1 for the last five years combined.
    • Boxplots of GRE Q and GRE V for people who reported both scores.
    • Histogram of GPAs (from 2.5 to 4.0 with 0.1 step).

    @Qtf311 Interviews and what they could mean have come up in this thread, try the search function. (said with gentle effect) My apologies if you've read those posts already and I'm just repeating things. :wacko:

    Interviews depend on the school, department and can vary even among subfields within a department. Yes, it can indicate a particular interest in a candidate (if the school usually does interviews) but it can also just be a part of their process to get more information before a decision is made.

    Case in point, I recently got an email from a professor at a place I applied to who wanted me to clarify, what subfield I saw myself most belonging to because I  marketed myself as having transnational interests between regions. This prevented them from categorizing what field my application fit in-Early America, Early Modern Europe or Latin America etc. If your application packet made things clear enough, they might not have any questions at all and decide without speaking to you.  Especially if their department or subfield doesn't usually make a thing of doing formal interviews.

    Had the NYU interview a few days ago. Was asked the usual questions about where I see my work going, why NYU etc. Was told I would hear back sometime in the next 2 weeks and to reach out if there was anything I forgot to mention in the interview. Fingers crossed.

    Thank you! No, I believe, Wednesday. But I have spent the last few days preparing+centering myself. As well as reading my application profile, their work, more about the program. I'm a lurker so was already somewhat hesitant to post about it.
