American Studies Cycle 2017/2018
LibraryLivingJT replied to amstu's topic in Interdisciplinary Studies
Got that Brown rejection today. Also got UCLA and UC Irvine rejections today (for English). All you need is one! -
My main POI from USC is so incredibly sweet - he helped me so much with apps and wrote me a letter of rec. He told me that USC for English was likely done sending out their acceptances, so don't hold your breath if you are waiting to hear from there! He also wished me luck, to let him know where I end up going, and to keep in email contact with him to update him on how I'm doing in a program. So grateful for helpful and kind people working in academia.

2018 Acceptances

My fingers are still crossed for USC and UCSB for me! Congrats on all of your acceptances! As someone else who has taken multiple rounds to get in, this is a huge accomplishment -
I agree! The department seems really really awesome - I have heard nothing but good things about it! The Race and Ethnicity track has me so incredibly excited - it was the main reason I applied there, along with their balanced emphasis on both teaching and research. Congrats on all of your acceptances! Are you attending the accepted students days at U of Delaware?

That's fantastic! I also applied there - if you don't mind me asking, how did you find out? Email? Random portal check? -

Been waiting for my rejection from there pretty much since I applied. I expect my rejection soon then! -
I say apply to the MA programs, especially the one with many opportunities - especially if it has good funding! I finished my MA in English in 2016 and it really helped me figure out what exactly I wanted to study, and gave me many connections that continue to help me.

SAME! Hey, but all we need is one acceptance, and we both have one so far

Yeah, USC is a tough nut to crack for ANY program. -
It took me this, my third round, to get ONE positive response - It is so incredibly heartbreaking and difficult; I get this so hard. But, if you really want it, do not give up. My first round I applied to 10 I believe and got shut out. Second round I applied to 8 and got shut out, but I didn't hear from USC until AFTER April 15th, so I assume I was waitlisted there and didn't make the cut. Third round, this round, I applied to 9 and have heard back from 1 so far (luckily it was an acceptance).
-
I'm also quite antsy! Have only heard back from 1/9, so I am very nervous/antsy.

Thank you so much! If I end up there, I'm sure I will love it - ease of biking on campus is a big win for me.
