  1. @evanmarie My top choice is NYU AmSt, but I'm not counting on it seeing as someone posted in results search already. Second choice is NYU MCC, which has a later admissions schedule (they should be starting to contact people for interviews soon...). Third choice is Northwestern, where I have an interview coming up.
  2. Fingers crossed for you @surprise_quiche @whitmanifesto
  3. @evanmarie Spoke too soon--just got the email. Michigan wasn't particularly high on my list, so I'm not gutted.
  4. @evanmarie Ironically, now I'm more on edge waiting for the official rejection!
  5. @Ian Han You never know until you get an official letter either way, but I'm going to assume so at this point.
  6. I know grad student unions can be pretty contentious with the administration and faculty. I have an interview/campus visit coming up at a school where it looks like there's a group of students who are currently working towards forming a union. I don't know what my schedule's gonna be quite yet but I'm assuming there will be opportunities to talk with current students considering there are activities planned over 3 days. I'd definitely avoid asking faculty, but is it strange to ask students about the union?
  7. @HistorianInTheMaking Ha! We applied to (and most likely got rejected from) all the same AmSt departments.
  8. @whitmanifesto Last year, the DGS of NYU AmSt apparently called people to tell them they were accepted even in the middle of a blizzard but I'm sure NYC blizzards don't compare to Chicagoland!
  9. @sprklinthe Other than one program that I know only starts scheduling interviews in mid-February, I'm mentally preparing to be rejected from everywhere I haven't heard back from yet. At least I have one interview already scheduled, so at this point I'm expecting that to be my only good news.
  10. @ejeon0501 nothing on my end. Still possible that they haven't notified everyone, but I'm not holding my breath...
  11. BTW, meant to ask this earlier--so they take taxes out of the monthly stipend check? (I'd honestly prefer that rather than figuring out what I owe come tax season!)
  12. @Ian Han Good luck! At this point, I'm preparing for the worst from NYU and hoping for the best from Northwestern. I've been in NYC long enough and it's taken a real toll on my wallet...
  13. @Ian Han I'm hoping in vain that they'll continue calling ppl tomorrow. Last year it looks like they made calls over 2 days.
  14. Well, f*ck. looks like another one to cross off my list.
  15. @evanmarie Ack, I'm sorry :\ I'm dying to hear back from NYU and trying (unsuccessfully) not to check results search so as not to crush my own dreams. I know one of the faculty on the adcomm (they were my professor in undergrad and gave me advice on applying) but I don't want to sound needy :\
  16. I'm inspired by how my friend did her wedding (city hall wedding, then a potluck in the park with whoever was in town). My SO and I are both Chinese Americans and our extended families in China are all unaware that we're queer, so luckily we wouldn't be pressured to have an expensive, high profile, traditional wedding. So at least I have that going for me.
  17. That's so nice! I wish I could pay off $7,500 in 3 months but given my salary and cost-of-living...
  18. I've been paying my loans for about 5 years or so so I've gotten a good chunk of them out of the way, but there's still a lot left. I know I can delay them by going back to school but would rather continue paying them down, at least somewhat, if possible. I definitely can't pay off the rest before starting school unless I get serious financial assistance (from family, most likely). Of course, this is still hypothetical since I haven't interviewed yet, but assuming I get into NU and assuming my SO decides to move with me, I think we'll be in a good place. My SO has some income that is independent of his location and employment status, and NU looks like it has a really bomb stipend... It's starting to look more and more attractive, compared to my former top choice (NYU).
  19. Ugh, that's definitely something I have to decide on...I still have loans I need to pay off :\
  20. @marshmallow530 It's possible, but probably unlikely.
  21. @whitmanifesto Meanwhile, I'm in awe of how cheap housing is in Chicago compared to NYC ;_;
  22. At this point, I'd even welcome some official rejections just so I don't have to wonder anymore!
  23. Let's hope my dream about getting in turns out right this time! *fingers crossed*
  24. There's only one result so far, so it's hard to have a good sense of what to expect! Good luck
  25. Well, someone posted a result for Michigan today. Not a program I was really banking on, though.
