  1. wow, that's a fascinating spreadsheet! where does one find a school's peer and recruiter rankings?
  2. @JolicYX I didn't get any "formal" info about that timeline, and I still haven't heard, but when I went to a visit weekend in March, they implied that's timeline they were aiming for. They're on spring break this week, so maybe that was a miscalculation on their part. Did you attend a visit for the Structural Department? I have no idea if most admitted PhD students will receive support. I'm also not sure about how it all works, the CAEE website says they only give out GRAs and TAs to students who have fully committed? I really love UT, but it's pretty hard to commit somewhere when you don't know if you have money to live on.
  3. What are you basing that off of? If it's the results here on grad cafe, that's just a small sample, and people are more likely to post their acceptances than their rejections. I haven't looked at CMU's results, but some schools don't reject applicants until late in the season, when they're sure they can't offer them a spot. But most of all... selectivity and the quality of a program aren't perfectly related, and one school that ranks above another doesn't automatically have lower admission rates. I wouldn't judge a school by admissions!
  4. When I went to visit UT, they implied they were trying to get funding settled this week, so that students would have a full month to consider. But, I'm not in the structural program. I got into Berkeley 2 weeks ago, but again, it seems like there are a lot of people in structural waiting for decisions. With structural being (I assume) the most common masters program in civil, decisions seem to take place over a longer time?
  5. Interesting, that takes a bit of the sting out of not being considered for financial aid!
  6. MS program, but I initially applied for a PhD, and switched to MS after they requested I do so. They told me unless I had already gotten in touch with someone will to advise me, direct admits to the PhD programs were rare. Congrats to anyone who pulled that off! The offer for was tuition only, but with left the door open for getting a TAship. I got an MS acceptance to Stanford, doing Environmental/Water Resources, they had some generic line about those who applied to the PhD program would only be admitted from the MS program (not saying that's true of everyone, but at least its true of those they sent this form acceptance to) I applied to Stanford by the first deadline (barely, I think December 3rd) but no funding offer. I have a strong GPA now, but I started college at a big state school in ChemE where I had a terrible GPA, then took time off, and am now finishing up at a public commuter school that's not even ranked in Civil, so never dreamed I'd get into everywhere I applied (CU Boulder, UT Austin, UC Berkeley and Stanford). For those waiting on Stanford, I did get an email later today to check my status, but the letter in the portal was dated for yesterday.
  7. Ok, that was helpful, I checked today and a letter was posted yesterday, I got in! Also got an admit to Berkeley via email today. It looked like a pretty formal letter, and had financial details, but apparently a more "official" acceptance from the dean will come out in a few weeks.
  8. Yeah, I also applied to Stanford and Berkeley... very nervous. We'll see what happens!
  9. I got into UT Austin too! I got an automated email Thursday night, and an email from the graduate coordinator today.
  10. MS (with final intent of PhD) applicant here, in civil systems/water resources. I've been accepted at CU Boulder, waiting to hear from UT Austin, Berkeley, and Stanford. I've had some level of "things look good!" contact from UT and Berkeley, but does anyone have a better idea of when decisions generally go out? Seems like maybe mid February for most programs? I have a job offer I'd be happy to take if I don't get any funded offers, but I told them I'd let them know by mid-march. Northwestern is indeed awesome, congrats to both of you! I almost did my undergrad there. But, I'm over cold winters,
