  1. @PompeyMagnus I really hope they're not doing different rounds of rejections. This will kill me. By the way you're a trooper, three rejections in one day must be brutal.
  2. whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!? I'm sorry to hear that ? I've been obsessively checking the portal and I haven't seen anything. Did you get an email telling you to check the portal? Also by portal you mean the grad apply page right or is there another one?
  3. I am freaking out. The waiting has been so bad for my anxiety. I just finished an interview with a student representative of the admissions committee and I feel like I completely bombed it. Also an POI from another school I had been in contact with hasn't reached out to me in three weeks after she said that it was possible that I would be on the waitlist. I saw an informal acceptance from that school a couple of weeks ago and since she said she would be in touch with me, I don't know what to think. Did I get rejected? Why is she not reaching out? I also called the school today to ask about when results would come out and I was told that they were still in the process of making decisions but they should be up soon. Something about her voice made me think that acceptances have probably gone out (at least informally) and that I should probably expect bad news. I don't know what to think and I love this school so much. I feel that they have been getting my hopes up just to reject me in the ends. This is so stressful, I feel like I am going crazy and reading too much into the situation.
  4. If I've learned anything from the results page is that I wish I had half the confidence some of these people have.
  5. I saw the Boulder acceptance too and it's been driving me INSANE. I also saw a rejection from Boulder but it was a personal email from a POI both in archeology. According to past years it seems that POIs have emailed students that have been accepted (idk people don't really specify whether it was a message to check the portal or a personal email) during the first 2 weeks of February and those who have been rejected receive a notice towards the end of February ? That does not look good for us, but also I have seriously considered calling them to find out. It is killing me. In terms of NYU some people have been contacted. In the results page the sociocultural person who submitted an acceptance (they got an unofficial email from their POI) said they had an informal Skype interview beforehand. In terms of when we would find out about their decision the results page is kind of all over the place but I would guess that maybe we might hear something towards the end of February/beginning of March? That's all I've been able to find out. I think Florida has the world's best rejection letter (also I just noticed it is dated January 22nd. It took them like 2/3 weeks to send it. WTF!!!). Here it is:
  6. I'm actually Anthro but as soon as I saw on the results page that y'all were talking about Syracuse I had to chime in. I applied to their Anthropology PhD program and to my surprise I was accepted. I was really happy and just like you I got an email saying that they were working on getting funding for me even though they didn't have any for me at the moment. I went up to Syracuse for their admitted students weekend where I was told that I was at the bottom of the waitlist for funding and it was very unlikely that I would receive any funding. It would have been nice if they had told me that since the beginning and not wait until I spent money to actually visit a frozen wasteland. ? I also heard that the Anthropology department is really not supportive. During my visit I stayed with a POC and they told me that as an international student and also a POC I should really think about my decision because Syracuse tends to be a hostile place. So yeah, if I were you I would definitely reconsider.
  7. There should be a what school gives out the harshest and most impersonal rejections competition. I got one from the University of Florida and it didn't even have a greeting. The body of the email is literally the same letter they attach and it starts with "I regret to inform you that your name was not among those selected for admission to our department for the Fall 2019 semester". When I read that I was like:
  8. I would say that it might be way too early to contact a POI especially since you are starting an MA soon. I think it's great that you are already thinking about a PhD, but I would imagine that right now professors are focusing on the current application season and trying to get people in the program and all that stuff. By August/September, they're probably thinking about the next cohort or on getting incoming students set up. They will not think about your specific situation until probably October 2020. That's a lot of time for them to completely forget about the conversation they could have with you before you leave. If you are trying to get on their radar for when you apply it doesn't seem like the best choice. I think it would make more sense to talk to your POI later. Also I would think that it would be better to focus on having a good relationship with the faculty in the MA program you will be attending. However, if you think that the POI might offer valuable advice/ an interesting perspective for your MA and the research you will be carrying out then that would be different. But also if I were a professor, I would be wondering that if you were so interested in them why didn't you apply directly to that school and do the PhD since you are already thinking about it? Like what is the point of doing the MA? I don't know if that makes sense, I just think you might be getting a bit ahead of yourself. I hope this helps and best of luck!
  9. I think it depends on the school but for NYU it does seem that POIs do personally contact those who have been accepted ?
  10. @Umairrasheed Based on past years' results it seems that acceptances and waitlists come out at the same time (around now) and rejections come out later in March. As to why departments don't send out rejections at the same time as acceptances, my theory is that they're just a bunch of assholes who enjoy watching applicants suffer, especially since most rejection letters are quite generic. But that's just my very anxious and salty self saying that ? Has anyone heard anything about CU Boulder/Can the mysterious creature who got the acceptance on feb 9th share what's the deal? Also does anyone remove one's name from a waitlist without sounding douchey?
  11. @ElleCo Thanks! I hate to hear that you are in a similar position but it is also nice to know I'm not alone. All the best to you too! Let's hope we get out of limbo soon ?
  12. @Anama yes! I thought the same thing but it says sociocultural! However I did look at results from past years and some people did receive (unofficial) emails from POIs telling them that they were waitlisted or rejected? ?‍♀️
  13. NYU is already sending out decisions?!?!?!
  14. @Ternwild You’re totally right. I really wish there’s something I could do, but there’s really not. Thanks, I needed to hear that.
  15. Hey everyone! So here's the thing: I've been in contact with the POI from one of my top choices for the past three weeks or so. She said she was really interested in working with me, we really clicked when we talked on Skype, and she even told me that she would do her best to get me in but of course that didn't depend completely on her. A couple of days after we talked she let me know that there was a good possibility that I may be on the wait-list because of funding constraints and department politics, but that I should also contact one of her students who was doing fieldwork close to where I live (this was towards the end of January). This week I saw on the results page that someone had been informed by their POI that they had been accepted to that school and that official results would come out some time this week. I've been wondering what I should do with that information. Wouldn't my POI have emailed me when they made the decisions regardless of what it would be? Should I email her to see what's up or should I wait until I get an official decision? Should I just assume I am definitely going to be on the waitlist? I was also accepted to another program which is also pretty good but I think my heart's set on the one where I am probably going to be waitlisted so I want to know if it is worth it to stay on the waitlist when I have another amazing offer. What should I do? I know this is kind of a stupid question but I would appreciate any advice anyone can give.
  16. @adamanthro Thanks so much for the information! I hope the interview goes well
  17. actually can anyone who has received a CUNY interview share the sub discipline they applied to and what the email they received said? Thanks!
  18. @ShadyG by any chance hay you received interview requests from CUNY GC and/or Harvard? I'm just asking because there's only been one post from each and you seem to be doing really well with your applications, so if anyone could have gotten any response it would be you ?
  19. I don't know about Yale but the Harvard page says that while they "do not formally interview candidates as part of the admissions process, finalists may be invited for a Skype interview". Based on the results from the past two years there was only one interview post for 2017 but two acceptances (3 if you count one from the anthropology and middle eastern studies program but that might be a separate thing?). However, last year those who received interview requests were told in an email that they had made the "medium short list (less than 10% of applicants)". So basically, there's no way to know.
  20. @FrigidSky701 Yes, my application said "Under Review" until I received the official decision. When I got the acceptance email it said that that I could see my decision letter on the portal including the funding letter and my application said and still says "Provisionally Admitted" which according to the site: "As a Provisional Admit you are an officially admitted student and may register for classes in the quarter to which you were admitted. However, failure to submit all missing documents by the fourth week of your first quarter will result in a hold on future registration." Did they respond your email? The department usually responds to emails relatively quickly.
  21. Just wanted to share this thread with y'all. I think we could all benefit from it. I am not a huge fan of the "look at all the things you have that other people don't and you should be thankful for that" shit because it personally makes me feel worse when I am already feeling down but either way it made me smile. Hope this helps: you are all truly great and I am rooting for all of us!
  22. @LoolAn interview request from CUNY just showed up in the results page. Based on previous years it seems that they come out in two batches one around this time and another one like a week after? I´m not 100% sure. Regarding NYU it has been said that the department usually interviews/brings into NYC the top 3 bioanth applicants or something like that and any other interview is informal. Results for these two schools usually come out in March.
  23. @FrigidSky701 I don't think it would hurt to email the department to see what's up, just be like "I was wondering when decisions would be released" or something like that. I also just looked at all the UCSD results from past years and there doesn't seem to be a waitlist so yeah email them.
  24. I got an acceptance email yesterday, which was probably automated but in the portal I found a letter of acceptance including funding and I also received an email from the department inviting me to the admitted students day so I think that not getting anything yet might mean you are on the waitlist? I hope this information is useful and that you get good news soon
  25. Lmao I came here to post the same rejection!! So glad this person is so confident about their qualifications, they are going to do great things ?
