  1. I have also just accepted my only offer. Good luck to everyone with waitlists and final decisions and feel free to PM me on here if you want to keep in touch about philosophy going forward.
  2. Mostly metaphysics, a side of phil sci.
  3. Not a big deal but thank you. Just curious since I received a waitlist-type email four weeks ago.
  4. Had you all gotten informal waitlist emails earlier in the month?
  5. Just got the official waitlist email from Virginia, lol.
  6. The evergreen hullabaloo about continental philosophy makes me really glad I'm going into a field that everyone agrees is coherent and useful - analytic metaphysics.
  7. Have you already gotten in? If so, dress however the hell you want. They are trying to impress you.
  8. I've never had the sense that there was anything particularly wrong with the Leiter rankings. With Leiter himself, that's a different issue.
  9. I'm still waiting on Chapel Hill. Virginia has sent out waitlists of a certain sort.
  10. Well, it's March 15th and they don't seem to have waitlisted or rejected anybody, as far as I can tell.
  11. Uhh, Chapel Hill? I'm really curious what went on there.
  12. I'm in the same boat. Looking forward to responses!
  13. How "professional" would you say the faculty side of the admissions process generally is? Should future philosophers be holding grudges against specific departments based on how their rejections or waitlists were phrased, for instance? Example: A top department rejected people at 5AM on a Sunday morning by posting a PDF to a new site on which they were required to create a new account, going through an entire password creation protocol. This department, of course, had all applicants' email addresses and phone numbers. Should applicants "have pretty good memories" about such things?
  14. Rutgers rejection available via portal. Only UNC and NYU remaining!
  15. I for one am excited for a career where I can never really be sure I'm good enough, because I haven't had enough of that already in life.
  16. There is also the matter of where you get placed. There is a difference between immediately going into a tenure-track position at a flagship state school or a top LAC versus bopping around European postdocs for five years.
  17. This process confuses me immensely. I don't understand how you can be rejected from Notre Dame and Wisconsin and waitlisted at GSU but also waitlisted at MIT and NYU. It's absurd.
  18. That's about a wrap. Looks like I'm one for fourteen. Happy enough with the offer, but a pretty dispiriting process.
  19. Congratulations, you two. Pretty much the people we all expected to get in, I'd think.
  20. Within the next few days: http://leiterreports.typepad.com/blog/philosophical_gourmet_report/
  21. Will this affect anyone's decisions? Does anyone even care about it anymore?
