  1. I don't think this is necessarily true. I called around the second week of February and received my acceptance the following week. It seems highly unlikely that the person answering the phones (likely an administrative person) is also reviewing applications.
  2. I'm in the exact same position, I got $18K as well. I wonder if that's the standard scholarship they give out? As much as I love Columbia I can't stomach that much debt.
  3. Wow, yeah we are in pretty similar situations. I'm still hopeful though, I keep thinking about people I know who did not go to graduate school until later in life and they're still successful and happy in their careers. It's definitely tough to put so much effort and planning into the application process to have it fall through. On top of the fact that I do have offers, but the thought of being $100k+ in debt (not including debt from undergrad) is sickening. Best of luck to you, wherever your future may take you!
  4. I'm partially posting this as catharsis for myself, and partially hoping someone else is in the same situation as me. So far I've been accepted at VCU and Columbia and rejected from UNC Chapel Hill. I love Columbia, but it is wildly expensive and I can't afford to go with the current financial aid package they've offered me. I'm trying to negotiate more aid, but I'm also not getting my hopes up. As for VCU, they don't award financial aid until June... way after when I would have to accept the offer of admission. All I know is that VCU awards every student at $20,500 loan and given that I'm out of state, that doesn't even cover half of the cost. I'm still waiting to hear from UNC Wilmington and George Mason, but right now it seems very unlikely that I'll be starting my MSW this fall at all. Chapel Hill was my first choice, I just graduated in December and live in the area, so it's affordable and a great school- everything I'm looking for. It's disappointing but I think I may take another year to work and reapply next application season. Anyone else in a similar situation?
  5. @uncmsw2019 yeah, it definitely is frustrating. I can't really afford to go to the other schools I've been accepted at so far, so I'll likely work for another year and try again next application season. One of my friend's moms actually had the same thing happen and she worked and took a class in the school of social work and was accepted the second time. Hope you're enjoying your time at UNC! Chapel Hill is an awesome place to be.
  6. yep, that was for the entire year, and I received an email.
  7. Got financial aid info... $18K in scholarships, $3k work study, and the rest is covered in loans. Yikes.
  8. no problem, my fingers are crossed for you!! also in regards to your previous post and @Kathryn1994, that is what my portal looked like
  9. Sure, I'm coming straight out of undergrad. GPA: 3.81 at UNC Chapel Hill, GRE 158Q & 159V, volunteer experience at a nonprofit mental health organization, two and a half years of psych research in clinical and cognitive labs
  10. Well, I heard back yesterday and did not get in. I'm honestly surprised considering I'm a UNC alum and was recently accepted at Columbia. Good luck to the rest of y'all waiting!
  11. Hi! Congrats to you as well!! I sent an email to cssw-admit@columbia.edu and they replied super fast, but I still haven't received my aid package.
  12. @abswk two year residential! the wait about killed me
  13. Thank you! I applied to the residential program with a concentration in clinical practice
  14. Any other priority applicants still waiting? I applied to the two year program and the wait is slowly destroying me
  15. Hey y'all, another long time lurker here. Just wanted to add my experience: I applied 11/27 and received my acceptance on 2/16, and as others have mentioned I have until 3/16 to respond. I contacted CSSW at the beginning of this week about financial aid & was told that I will have my financial aid information by 3/16 (still waiting though, lol) but regardless they gave me an extension until 4/3!
