I got that email this week! Does anyone know to what percentage of applicants they send out the interview requests? It looked like there will be a ton of people at each interview date.
-
Yeah, I saw it on the portal, then received an email later that evening. Congrats!

Congrats, @slpsalaz! Good luck, @lilyslp!

I submitted mine on December 1st.

I didn't get an email, but just checked the portal! They have started sending out decisions! Good luck!!

When I was there visiting the school, they told everyone it would be mid-February, but it's very possible they said that to be on the cautious side! I guess we'll have to wait and see. Good luck!!

Hi all! Does anyone know anything about CUNY Queens College and Hunter College's programs? My perception of Hunter has been that it was more medically- and research-focused-- is that true? For reference, I want to be a speech pathologist within the school system, and although I would love to do some research in grad school, I don't have any research experience from my undergrad. Will not having research experience hurt my chances of admission to either of these schools, especially Hunter? Are either of these programs more competitive to the other for grad admission? I have looked on edfind, but the information is often outdated. Any information about Hunter and Queens grad admissions and their actual programs would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance!

One of the graduate program's prompts for my statement of purpose asks for my intellectual and academic interests, and I'm unsure exactly what they're asking for. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this means? What exactly is an intellectual interest? I would think my academic interests would be either my research interests or my interest in receiving my Master's, depending on how you make sense of the phrase. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Academic Update Verification
samiamslp replied to iowa999speechie's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Does anyone know how it works if you have already graduated and so have no more grades/classes to report? Do I still need to do the academic update? And then does my application have to be verified all over again, or if it is verified it will stay that way? I'm worried if I do the academic update, even though nothing has changed, I will have to wait for verification all over again and I don't know how that works with schools that have to be verified by January 15th, February 1st, etc. Has anyone been in a similar place as me and how did it work? -
No, I ended up just doing my own research about it before I applied! Have you heard anything about the program? Did you apply there as well?

Do Applications REALLY take 3-4 weeks of processing???
samiamslp replied to Inbal's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Was this the first application you submitted on CSDCAS? I submitted my first application earlier in the month and it took less than a week to verify, and the other applications I submitted after seemed to be automatically listed as verified as soon as I received the email saying they were complete. So it seemed like if you had one application verified, verification for applications after that were a no-brainer. Does anyone know if that is the case? If you have one application verified, would it still take the four weeks to verify a second one? -
My understanding is that as a general rule the statement of purpose is supposed to be one page single-spaced or two pages double-spaced. That said, if you are able to call the school directly before you submit your application, I would definitely double check!

samiamslp replied to Inbal's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I think it depends how many applications they receive at the same time. So, I had an application that only took a week to verify earlier in the month. But I would think that since they'll have more applications to go through later on in the month, the longer you wait to submit, the longer it will take to be verified. -
@JennMae217, @WesttoEast18 or anyone else with experience with Saint Rose's grad program-- I'm hoping you can tell me what about the school and program that interested you so much about it or that you really like about it! I am currently applying Saint Rose and would love to hear any personal experiences!

(I just reread your post and WOW you are in your final semester of undergrad! You go, bro!! You're in the homestretch until graduation! That's a serious accomplishment. Even if you decide you want to change tracks a bit your life, don't forget to give yourself a GIANT pat on the back ? ) -
English Education to Speech Pathology?

Yeah, in regard to the courses, pretty much just what @bibliophile222 said. I personally find statistics to be helpful for data and research purposes (and totally different from "normal" math), and I took an anatomy course for the biology requirement which I found relatable, but I think it's just ASHA's way of wanting us to be well-rounded. Check out this link for non-CSD ASHA requirements: https://www.asha.org/certification/course-content-areas-for-slp-standards/ I think subbing is a great idea! You would be doing something you enjoy, and while maybe it may not be what you enjoy the most, it will get you closer to that goal! I think trying to fit in some observations in the meantime would also be a great thing to do if you can fit them in. Can you find out if there is a speech pathologist at the school where you're student teaching? Maybe you can watch her sessions for a few hours, see what you get to see and what you think? -
English Education to Speech Pathology?

I was an English and education double major and switched to speech midway through college. While I’d say both education and speech pathology are stressful careers and I still plan to work in schools, I really did want to have a more personal relationship with my students, as you’ve alluded to. I’m hoping to also get some literacy aspect into my speech sessions, but that’s up to the school and state! Anyway, my advice to you would be to make totally sure you’re changing paths for the right reasons— it’s totally okay if you’re still on the learning curve for teaching! If you’re definitely set on speech— welcome to the dark side ? Speak to admissions within your program— some schools don’t require prereqs to be taken ahead of time, especially if they are a three year program. They’re your best bet to find out what you have and what you need. How far along are you in your education major? If you’re doing EdTPA, I’d assume you’re either a senior or junior? If you’re not a senior, it could make sense to try to fit some CSD prereqs into your schedule for next semester and onward. If you are a senior, would it make sense to take some time off to take the prereq classes? Is there a physics or stats class you can take over winter break to get one more prereq done? Everything’s up to you and what makes you feel comfortable, and how long you have left in undergrad! Have you done any observations of speech sessions? Also- feel free to message me with questions or for info— I’ve been where you are! Best of luck!!
