I never applied to Princeton because they didn't/don't(?) offer an MTS/MA/MAR, but only the MDiv. Seems strange they don't offer the purely academic degree.
-
From what I have been told they take half a dozen or so applicants in each concentration. No idea how many people apply for that concentration, but I imagine not "too many."

Anyone know when they let folks know? -
Anyone know when they let people know? I thought it was March 1st last year??

Which concentrate (MAR) are you applying for?

Honestly I haven't noticed a "huge" difference from UG to grad, at least thus far. I'm in the humanities, not the sciences, and I also went to a good small private school with intimate classes and caring profs, so perhaps I just had a really good UG experience?? I have heard it is harder for some of my peers who did their UG at bigger state schools. The classes are much smaller and the professors expect you to really engage the material by doing more papers, less tests, ect. shalom

Well it depends on what area you want to focus in. Latin seems pretty obvious if you are doing anything with Christianity (and not modern as you said).
-
From what I remember most masters programs want around 1/3 of your coursework in the humanities, although I'm not sure of anyone that has applied with a business background, ect. What do you mean by "real" Catholic theologians? ND's program, like you said, might be a bit out of reach because of its free tuition. GTU has several Catholic departments, but might be a bit too "modern" for you. You might look into BC's MTS program, but there are rumors that next year all of the MTS students will be given free tuition (Like ND), which will likely mean it will become even more competitive. As far as the overall breadth of Catholic programs, I think BC pretty much has the best program just because of its department size, as well as access to courses through the BTI. It's a bit too Catholic for me at times (I'm not religious), but its academics are outstanding, so I suck it up . good luck.

A friend at BC got invited last week for an interview.

HDS admissions - a harbinger of potential postmark leniency

For whatever reason they seem to have more of a problem with it on their campus. Maybe since Cambridge is congested? I was there earlier for a class I'm taking and it always seems like there is more snow, too. I wish I would have taken a Wednesday class there...haha. -
I have a friend who did her MDiv at Candler, and is now getting an MTS (BC) because she wasn't prepared to go onto doctoral work. It seems like it is more common than it was in the past. I have been told it would make you more competitive, although this of course depends on your record. Also, I know of two others who have an MA in philosophy, as well as a theological degree, which seemed to work out pretty well for them when applying for doctoral work (both in Ivy PhD programs). good luck.

A friend in my department has an Mdiv from Candler (it says you are from Georgia?), and now has started an MTS here. Apparently she couldn't get into a PhD program because she didn't have enough language. I believe she had about a year of Greek, maybe a bit of German. If you're doing early church stuff, you should prolly have Latin and Greek, no? Two years seems like enough time to prepare yourself properly enough, especially if you take some type of summer German/French reading course. good luck.

I have an international friend here who received some scholarship money, but she told me getting actual loans to cover additional costs (tuition, room, ect) was not possible. No idea how that actually works, just going off what she has told me. good luck.

For what it's worth, my friend is doing her library science graduate degree through MU, but has her UG in speech pathology from MSU.

What the Delays Mean for Divinity Schools

I remember HDS did the same thing last year, although I wasn't in Boston, so I don't know if the weather was equally terrible last year. I wouldn't read too much into it. They likely have plenty of applications. I hope you're right, though . -
Ahh, makes sense! To answer your original question, you seem pretty competitive. Your gpa looks good, and your GRE is well above average. My gpa was a bit higher, but your GRE is better than mine, at least your verbal .

I'm curious what degree/program are you applying for at WashU?
-
If it helps (says you are applying to BC), not very many of my friends have cars here. I have one, although I rarely drive. The subway (T) is close to school and the surrounding area, so really the only reason to have a car is if you want to drive out of town, or for a bit more convenience if you want to take it to the grocery store. Also, most pay extra for a car spot. I was lucky enough to have a driveway included for free with my rent. shalom

I don't see any reason why you couldn't get into those schools. I got into a few of those listed and my stats were slightly lower. Also, I think a couple of those schools admit around 50% for an MDiv degree, slightly higher than something like an MTS or MA.

I have a sample for a masters level theology program, anyone?
-
Just based on the experience with my friends, it seems like if you want it paid for you just need to be awesome...haha...and get a full ride. Sadly, most of us didn't get it all paid for, although most of us did get a good chunk of it comped. Perhaps there is some free money associated with your church, or denomination (if applicable)?

I haven't really figured this out yet...but, where is GC? I have heard they have a Boston campus, which isn't there main campus, right? They just don't seem to be offering that many courses in Boston, at least according to the BTI schedule. So with that in mind, I am wondering how many people are full time at the Boston campus? You would have to drive to the other schools right (T won't go that far)?
-
Just curious, what is your GPA? Do you not plan on taking out any loans, or you just want a large portion of tuition out of the way? I think you would be surprised. I know most of my friends at top schools, even ones with not "great" stats ended up getting 30-50% scholarships. It's worth applying, at least.
-
Also, I remember most, if not all, of the places I applied (10 total) had a religion drop menu on their application (all top schools). Of course this was optional, but I have been told by certain people that it might help you with admission. best

My post didn't post...bah...anyways, I think it may be a bit different from history. Also, I'm referring to master level programs, not PhDs. I have friends who mentioned it (like I did) at top schools (Harvard, ND, ect), so I think it may be fairly common. I agree there is no need to labor it into your statement, but a lot of the top schools seem to be into diversity, so having someone from a different background then what they are used to, I would think, might help you. My roommates here at BC were just talking about this, so I figured I'd get some input from other folks. best
