  1. Grad school chances? So I’m stressing over grad school. I’m currently finishing up my junior year of undergrad. I desperately want to go to grad school for audiology, however I feel like I have lower stats. A little backstory: I’m technically a fourth year in undergrad but I changed my major to Speech Language Hearing sciences my second year. My first year I was a biology major that took on too many hard classes and did pretty poorly and ended the year with a 2.75. My freshman year was the first time I moved far away from home, both of my grandparents passed away, and I was in an extremely toxic relationship (even though I could’ve gotten out of that much sooner I just couldn’t for whatever reason). Move forward to my second year I came to terms I wasn’t happy but knew I wanted to do something in healthcare. I love ASL and decided to go the SLP/ Audiology route. The director of the SLHS program at my school advised me that even though I can finish college on track, it’s better if I do an extra year to improve my GPA. I’m currently at a cumulative 3.4 GPA and it’s looking like I’m finishing this semester with a GPA of a 3.6 so hopefully that pushes my cumulative up a little more. I have a 3.9 major GPA as well. I’m very involved - I was the Vice President of housing for my sorority - a year later became the Vice President of my sorority - I’m a tour guide and became the Vice President of training for the organization - I’m active in NSSLHA - and my school has a FETCH lab that I try to observe in (pre covid) - I work at a Grocery store also I go to the University of Cincinnati and I love this school so much that I would love to return for grad school and get a certificate in animal audiology (UC’s specialty). Is it true that it’s harder to get into grad school where you went to undergrad in? Any advice? I hope to get my GPA up to a 3.6 by the time I apply to schools and also I hope to get my GPA up. Is there hope for me lol
  2. Alright everyone it’s the end of the semester which means another post needing reassurance that I shouldn’t change my major!!! I ended with a 3.6 this semester bringing my overall to a 3.333! So close to a 3.5!! math GPA: 3.05 Science GPA: 2.8 (this has been the most frustrating thing to bring up) CSD GPA: 4.0 I am super involved on campus. I’m the Vice President of my sorority, the year before being a different executive position, and I volunteer every week tutoring at an elementary school. I’m a tour guide and hold a leadership position through that. I work on campus. I’m in NSSLHA. And I’m pretty sure that’s it. I just finished fall semester of my junior year (but I most likely will have to do an extra semester just to get my science gpa up). Is there hope for a grad school to look at me??? I need to talk to my advisor to see if I should start studying for the GRE to see if I am going to take it this summer. How long do GRE scores last?? Should I study now to be safe and schedule my test?
  3. Anyone going for audiology??? I think I’m really liking that field more than slp! But we will see!
  4. This is most definitely a dumb question hahaha and I’m so sorry but what is the difference between getting a Masters of Arts and then a masters of science? Especially for speech path? Do I have to get a masters of science to work in a hospital or could either work?
  5. Thank you so much!! And congrats to you as well!!!! So far I have a 4.0 in CSD so fingers crossed I keep it up around there!!!
  6. I got my grades back all As and two Bs!!!! I got a 3.722 for this semester which made my overall now a 3.2!!! Next fall I’m going to try to get a 4.0 and hopefully that’ll get me to a 3.3!
  7. So I made a couple posts here. I just finished my second year and I got a B and an A in my physics and Bio class which brought my science gpa to a 2.8. My math gpa is a 3.0 and my CSD is a 4.0. In my previous posts I mentioned I was a different major my first year and went through a lot of tough stuff in my personal life. I ended my first year with a gpa of a 2.747 and now that I switched to CSD and wanting to be a slp, I got my gpa up to a 3.038. I’m waiting to see my gpa after grades get put in so it should be going up a lot more after this semester. I still have two more years to go. Should I switched my major I feel like my stats are just too low
  8. So you’re in grad school right now? And if you get lower grades they kick you out or is that your undergrad program that did that?
  9. Did anyone’s undergrad program have progression? Mine does and it causes me an enormous amount of stress. If you don’t maintain a 3.0 you can’t progress to take upper level courses and if you have a low gpa the director will basically tell you to change your major
  10. So I’m an undergrad sophomore with a gpa of a 3.0 I’m going to start my junior year in the fall and I’ll be lucky if I graduate with a 3.4. I’m scared I’m going to be told by my director of my major that I should change my major because I won’t get in to grad school. Has anyone ever been told they can’t do it but ended up getting in??
  11. So I saw in here for you go to ASHA’s Ed Find and look at the applications received and divide that by admissions offer you have a good estimate of the acceptance rate of that school. So what is a good acceptance rate for a school? Some schools have a 30-40% and then I found one that was 74%. I’m just really stressed about my stats. I’m only a sophomore and I plan on applying to penn state that looks at the last 60 credits. I’m really involved on campus and I’m a member of nsslha, tour guide, I’m apart of Greek life, I hold leadership positions, I volunteer. It’s just my gpa. I read about people who got rejected with having a 3.7 gpa. I’m worried that I’ll barely make it to a 3.4 (I have a 3.0)
  12. Okay awesome thank you all for the amazing advice. I’m involved on campus currently. I’m a tour guide for my university and hold a leadership position through that. I’m in a sorority and I homd a leadership position through that. I tutor every Friday at an elementary school. And I have other forms of community service
  13. So I currently have a cumulative gpa of a 3.038 and csd gpa of a 4.0. My math and science are sitting around a 3.0. I’m currently in my spring semester of sophomore year. If I did my math right I should finish with a 3.5ish if I get all As... do I have a chance? I have anxiety that it’s not worth it
  14. Okay so I’ve made previous posts on here and stated I’m an undergrad sophomore. How does the application process work for grad school? Like do they consider my grades up until my last semester of senior year or do I apply after fall semester of senior year? Obviously I still have to do well spring semester I’m just confused because I’m seeing on here people are still waiting to hear back for an interview and I have friends that are seniors who already heard back for medical school or occupational therapy grad school. Sorry if my question seems done I just really don’t know!!
  15. What kind of research should I be involved in and if you did research, how was your experience with it?
  16. Or is there something that someone else did that made them more competitive?
  17. Alright here’s an update as I finished my undergrad fall semester of sophomore year. As mentioned in previous posts I was a pre med major my first year and it killed my gpa and I had a cumulative GPA of a 2.747. Well I worked really hard this semester and I got a 3.6 which brought my cumulative GPA to a 3.038!!! Here are my states and if anyone could give me advice on what would make me more competitive to make up for my GPA (other than doing amazing on the GRE) please please let me know!! science gpa: around a 2.7 where I have four more science classes to go and will definitely bring that up math gpa: around a 2.8 and I have two more classes that will definitely bring that up csd gpa: 4.0 and I have a lot a lot of those classes left lol. So aside from academics I am involved on campus. I am apart of Greek life and I have a leadership position within that organization. The organization I’m in also volunteers weekly at a local elementary school to tutor students. I am also a tour guide for my university and also hold a leadership position within that organization. I’m also in NSSLHA and I need to be more involved with that organization so spring semester I am going to focus on that. Also in spring semester I’m going to volunteer in the slp wing at a local hospital and also shadow some SLP’s and maybe some audiologists. Is there anything else I should look into and do to help make me more competitive?
  18. Best of luck and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!! Thank you for the kind words I just stress over so much. I’m going to start volunteering over winter break!
  19. I’m really stressed as an undergrad sophomore in CSD... my program does like gpa checks to make sure we’re at a 3.0 or higher but we were told that if you don’t have a 3.4 by the time you graduate then there’s no point in applying it just causes me a lot of stress and anxiety. I was told but upperclassmen that they most likely say that so we can shoot to do well so we don’t have to worry but as long as we do well on the gre and have volunteer, shadow, and extracurriculars we should be okay and also good LOR. Is that true?? Can someone help take my anxiety away lol
  20. Asking just in a what if scenario, has anyone failed a class their first year and still gotten into grad school??
  21. Is COMD my CSD courses!? If so I’m getting an A in my first one ?
  22. So to start I am a second year in undergrad and I am having horrible anxiety over if I will get into grad school. So my first year of school I was pre med and didn’t adjust to first year well at all. After my first year, my gpa was a 2.75. I switched to CSD and I have been LOVING IT!! Well I’m worried that after my first year, I’m not going to get into SLP grad schools... I’m doing much better this semester and I think I’m getting a 3.4-3.5 which will bring my overall up to a 3.0. I’m hoping by the time I graduate I’ll have a 3.4... I just am scared and stressed. and another question, I heard a lot of SLP grad schools look at the last 60 credit hours I took, does anyone have a list of those schools?
