  1. Haha no worries! Just wanting to ease @Mickey_ 's mind about OISE because I'm also in the same boat! P.S. is anyone else encountering a bunch of server errors when trying to post on/navigate gradcafe?
  2. I don't think this is true for OISE. I have spoken with a faculty member at my current institution with close ties to a PI at OISE, and she has informed me that they haven't yet reached out to anyone. They also typically do not do open houses and only do Skype/phone/e-mail interviews, so I think that gives them a little more time when making decisions and reaching out.
  3. Oh man, I am so sorry. Hang in there and don't give up! I am afraid to check mine now....
  4. It is diabolical. But yeah, follow the link @Neurophilic posted and you can filter your search results by searching keywords. For example, I usually input "clinical" as a key word. Then, it sorts the results from new posts to old, so you can check each day and see the most recent results.
  5. Haha I am planning a road trip to Haida Gwaii to keep me sane ?
  6. Same here please! Though part of me doubts that a lot of people who post on the results page check here (or even know it exists??)
  7. I believe Magnolias was applying to Adult Clinical. They PM'd me their POI's initials; feel free to PM me for them!
  8. You're right, I shouldn't! I'm just being pessimistic to temper my hopes haha!
  9. Same here. No news from York... which I had seen another person had heard from so I started presuming rejection, but maybe not considering three of us haven't heard anything yet?! Aieeeee
  10. There are some exceptions to this in School & Clinical Psych programs... but for the most part you will definitely hear from someone beforehand, even in the majority of SCCP programs.
  11. Ackk I am heading there on Friday next week for interviews and am nervous!! Great to hear you had a good experience
  12. Ok good to know, thank you! I will hope to hear from one of the POIs I applied to but am getting nervous!
  13. Was this a general/generic email sent to all who got an interview or specifically from your POI?
  14. Ok just going to quickly chime in to say... you have to stop your partner from looking at houses! I learned this the hard way because you get so set on a place and a home that it not only is devastating if you don't get in, but also clouds your vision for interviews. I know the program is your top choice, but if you evaluate programs more objectively on interview weekends, you may find it is actually not your top choice. I have had to check myself numerous times with talking to my partner about places we may live and am now committed to pushing any preferences out of my mind in order to choose the program that is best for me based on the program itself/fit and not based on location. Can completely sympathize with you. I may be moving myself and my partner to an extremely expensive city to live in, and my partner is less than enthused about it... but it may just be the best move for me career-wise.
  15. Aghhh that blows! I haven't had this come up yet, but I can imagine how much of a bummer that would be, especially if you booked flights to another interview already and weren't given the opportunity to actually decide which to attend due to timing of invites. I feel like POIs should be understanding about this, especially if you emphasize your disappointment in not being able to meet them and that it was just a matter of bad timing. I agree about Canadian schools posting interview days! It would not only help people be aware of potential conflicts, but also help to ease some people's minds about when to expect to hear back...
  16. I can definitely sympathize with how confusing it can be to know what to do to best position yourself to get in, especially in your last year of undergrad. It will really vary by PI, and I personally did not apply to uOttawa, so what I have to say may not apply to the faculty there. Is the position you are volunteering for primarily research based or clinical work based? I ask because I would say that, for many schools, actual clinical work is not always necessary and many PI's prefer you have research experience. However, if it is research focused, I would speak with the PI you are planning to work with in your gap year and express your interest in getting some more conference presentations in, especially if you have no publications in the works. Again, not sure how important pubs and conference presentations are to uOttawa faculty, but that is where I would suggest focusing your time in your gap year! Also want to mention that it is excellent that you are taking a gap year -- I am of the opinion that taking time off between your bachelors and graduate school is really important for strengthening your CV but also keeping you sane!
  17. Stats as in our GPAs/pubs/etc.? I mean, I hear what you're saying and that would be helpful for people who plan to apply in the future for getting their applications up to snuff, but I can also see that becoming a bit of a pissing contest. I think most people on here would agree that having a GPA > 3.6, relatively high GRE scores (over 70th percentile in verbal and over 50th in quant), publication/s (either fully published or in the works), conference presentations/posters, and work as an RA are all important pieces to an application. However, stats are not the only thing that will explain how someone got in/got an interview. There are other unquantifiable things that often play into getting in (e.g., connections to the PI, research fit, letters of rec, general personality fit, etc.) For example, I know people who got in without any publications, or no conference presentations, or with quantitative GRE scores below the 35th percentile. I'm totally fine if others want to share their stats, and am willing to share mine as well, but it makes me uneasy about how everyone sharing this info could make others feel who are currently waiting to hear back.
  18. I think typically "short-list" means you are likely to be invited to the open house or a more formal interview, and "waitlist" means that you are a backup option in the event other students decline. I could be mistaken though
  19. Hahaha so relatable re: jumping to conclusions. Somehow this process has made me into the most superstitious/speculative person of all time.
  20. I applied for SCCP, mostly due to a close match with a PI there! I have heard mixed things about interviews -- mostly, I have heard some do Skype interviews, others just do a brief e-mail interview, but I have never heard of them doing in-person interviews. Hard to say if that is always going to be the case... I honestly have no idea what to expect!
  21. Like the subject: "OISE would like your help!"... OK well I would like OISE's help in relieving my state of uncertainty!!
  22. OISE just sent an applicant survey and it scared me
  23. I feel both of you. Having a partner to factor in is so difficult and makes this process even more painful because you are altering another person's life with your decision. I have heard people say to not take into account your partner's preferences with locations, but COME ON... how can you not consider the other person when they are a huge part of your life and support system.
  24. Right? I think we're just going to have to try to move somewhere month-to-month or sign a lease up to August, but all of that feels like it has to be such perfect timing. I'm not the kind of person who sits in indecision for long, so having no choice but to juggle multiple possibilities at all times makes me want to fly out of my skin and into outer-space. Putting roots down is a lot of work.
