  1. For short-term research grant 2019, applied from the US to the NY DAAD office. I am a graduating undergrad, the grant is typically for PhD students but given to graduates in 'exceptional cases': Wed February 6 my portal status changed to Selection Made This morning around midnight I received an email telling me to check portal message. My status still reads Selection Made: I received a rejection letter as a pdf in a notification: "Your application was thoroughly reviewed by the responsible DAAD Selection Committee, on which professors sit in an honorary capacity. We regret to have to inform you that the committee decided not to award you a scholarship. The Selection Committee for the selection Research Scholarships - ShortTerm 19_1 had to decide between 76 applications and was able to award 32 scholarships. The number of qualified applications usually exceeds the number of available scholarships. Negative decisions do not always mean the committee considers the applicant to be unsuitable for the scholarship, but initially only that other applicants have been rated more highly in the given competitive situation. It is the DAAD’s policy not to give detailed information on the reasons that led to this decision. Please be assured that the selection committee members gave full and due consideration to all relevant aspects contained in your application and in those submitted by other candidates. We hope that this disappointing decision will not discourage you from looking for other ways to carry out your project. I wish they gave feedback because this was my first grant proposal, and I'd like to know what to do to improve. Congrats to all who got it and best of luck to everybody waiting!
  2. I applied for "Short-Term Research Grants" and "Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines" my status is "Graduate" I'm not a PhD student
  3. Just wanted to say I'm in the exact same boat except 4 transcripts. In my SOP I briefly mentioned (only ~2 sentences) that I spent time trying to figure out what major was right for me, and now I know for sure I'm doing what I want (this was the approach I was advised to take by a current Master's Student at the school I applied to). Haven't gotten a response yet, but if I get an interview I'll let you know how it goes, as I'm sure they will ask about it.
  4. I think that sounds really weird for the interviewer to react in such a hostile way. But also, I think it might be strange that your advisor maybe never looked over your resume and gave you advice on how it should look? A good advisor would point things like that out. Personally, I add names of supervisors for all the work I've done because I feel like it gives me more credibility, like I worked with this personal who is a professional in their field.
  5. Is it standard that acceptances go out first? Does that allow them to figure out if someone declines they can offer an acceptance to someone else?
  6. OMG mine says selection made too!!! This is for a research grant though, not the study scholarship - that one still says 'Application Submitted'
  7. I didn't get an email, in the DAAD portal there is a notification under my application called "Acknowledgement" and it contains a PDF that says my application is complete and that the selection will happen in March
  8. Not Canadian programs, but applying to Physics Master's programs in Europe (Germany, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and Denmark). My favorite thing is that European deadlines are so spread out (Dec all the way to July 2019 I will basically hear back from my top choices before the deadlines for other programs.
  9. I applied for a Master's scholarship and a short-term (6 months) research grant to fund a summer internship in 2019. My portal current says "Application Submitted" On Dec 13th I received an email saying they received my application for the research grant: "Thank you very much for your recent application and your interest in doing research in Germany. This confirms that we have received your application. We will get back to you with the results of this selection round approximately end of February of 2019." On Dec 18th I received a message in the DAAD Portal saying my application for the scholarship is 'complete' and will be considered in the upcoming selection round. The requirements (especially for the research grant) were quite complicated and thorough (I had to mail a 4 pound package of documentation), so hearing that my application is considered complete made me very happy! I hated the feeling that I wouldn't even be considered because I forgot some form or whatever. Good luck to everyone!
